Chapter: Last curtain – The End Is Almost Here

Place: Los Angeles, CA: 11000 Wilshire Blvd #1700, the FBI office
Time: Monday, October 16, 2006

Alice was running late and Bette went into the bathroom before meeting with the FBI agents with Tina following right behind her. Bette splashed cold water on her face and Tina watched her, sensing a lot of tension in her lover. She gently rubbed her back and smiled, looking at Bette’s reflection in the mirror, “Don’t worry, baby. Just remember what we had practiced last night, okay? Everything is going to be fine.”

Bette looked at herself in a mirror, adjusted the collar of her pristine white blouse and smiled back, “Yes, I remember. As long as I have you by my side, it’s going to be okay.”

“Always.”

Bette turned around to face Tina and they kissed, gently, reassuringly. Tina watched as Bette reapplied her lipstick and wondered, not for the first time, how gorgeous she looked in her power suit. Just this morning she watched Bette dressing for their meeting and it took all her will power not to stop Bette from what she was doing, take that power suit off and take her back to bed.

As they exited the bathroom, they ran into a heavy-breathing Alice who was searching for them frantically, “Oh my God, I thought you already went into the interrogation room and everyone I asked wouldn’t tell me anything.”

“Is everything okay?” Tina asked, taking Bette’s hand and squeezing it gently.

“Yes, I finally got email from Gina. Everything is set and if the FBI will question your absence, and they will, you have everything you need to prove that you went to Geneva: the dates, the reservation number, your flight itinerary, even the special dinners you pre-ordered because you are a vegetarian,” Alice smiled. “That was my idea because details are important. I forwarded you the email so you’ll have all the details when they ask.”

“I’m not a vegetarian,” Bette shook her head while she took her phone out so she can look at the email and familiarize herself with the details.

“They don’t know it,” Alice looked around. “Just don’t order chicken wings or a Big Mac if that cute FBI lezzie agent offers you anything to eat or drink.”
