    6 Months- chapter 19

Bette awoke with a start.  It was 6:30 Saturday morning, and her alarm was not going off for another half hour.  “What is that about?” she wondered to herself.  She had the strangest feeling, one that was a little unsettling and yet not really describable.

She shook it off and rubbed her eyes.  Since it was Saturday, she did not have to be in the gallery until 8:30 or so, but since she was up, figured she would go ahead and shower in order to get her day started.

Saturday was just like any other day of the week, Sunday being the only one any of them took off.  They were on a six day construction/work week as they were trying to hit the scheduled opening date.  Getting a construction crew to work on Saturdays was not cheap, but Peggy was paying the bills, so it was really not Bette’s concern.  She was coming in right at budget for everything else, so Peggy did not seem too concerned about the additional construction costs.

She dressed in relative quiet with only the sound of the TV in the kitchen keeping her company.  As it was a Saturday, she did not need the whole power suit that made up her weekly wardrobe.  Since being in New York, Bette’s style had sharpened even more, becoming even more cutting edge.  She slid on the low-rise bone colored silk/wool pants and matched a beautiful French blue shirt with wide cuffs on it.  After getting her heels on, she gave herself the once over in the mirror, nodding in approval.  She walked into the kitchen after finishing getting ready, took the last sip of her coffee and left the apartment.

As she left The Four Seasons, she thought about stopping at the bakery for treats for everyone since she was running ahead of schedule, but it was out of the way and so decided to just head straight on in.

As she approached the gallery, she reached into her bag to get her keys, not looking up until she got to the door.  Once there, she unlocked it, leaving it unlocked behind her as she knew that James would be in shortly.
