    6 Months- chapter 19

Tina, looking deeply into Bette’s eyes with disbelief and despair said, “I never thought that you would leave me Bette”.

    And that was it.

She fell into Bette’s embrace, the tears flowing as she clutched at Bette.  She wanted to be angry, wanted to scream at Bette for abandoning her, but did not have the strength.  And so she stopped running and held on to Bette for dear life.  She wrapped her arms around Bette’s neck, grabbing whatever she could get of her, and held on.  Bette pulled back at one point to see how she was doing, and Tina cried, “No Bette, don’t leave me”.

“Tina, I am not leaving you, I’m not going anywhere.”

Tina pulled Bette even closer to her, willing Bette all of the way inside of her so that they could be one again.

Bette held on, not knowing what to do but hold her.  She did not know what had happened to Tina and that scared her.  Had she been hurt?  Did something happen to her?  There were so many questions running through Bette’s mind, but she knew that this was not the time to ask them.

As Tina’s sobs began to subside, Bette tried once again to pull away from Tina.  Tina acquiesced, but still had her arms wrapped around Bette’s neck.

“Tina, I need to get you out of here.”

Tina just nodded and allowed Bette to gently push her back to a chair that was besides James’ desk.

“I want you to sit here, ok?  I have to make two quick calls.”

Tina never let go of Bette’s hand that she was clutching.  She dialed her driver Jimmy and asked him how long it would take him to get to the gallery, all the while keeping an eye on Tina.  Tina’s eyes followed every move that Bette made, again afraid to lose sight of her for even a second.

“I can be there in five minutes” came the reply.

“Good, please see that you do so” Bette said, not unkindly.

The next call that she placed was to James.  She looked at her watch and did not understand why he was not here yet.  “And where were the guys?” Bette thought.
