    Soul Mates – Chapter 4

Tina dressed as quickly and quietly as she could, wanting to get out of the house without running into her mother. She entered the living room, careful with her steps as the salty sweet smell of breakfast filled her nose. A wave of nausea hit her causing Tina to vow to never drink again as she reached out for the doorknob.

"And where do ya think you’re off to this early?"

Tina closed her eyes and inwardly cursed at her failed attempt to sneak out. She turned around with a forced smile, the nausea was getting worse.

    "Morning, Momma"

"Don’t you ‘morning, momma’ me" Her mother said as she stuck half her body out from the kitchen doorway, pointing a spatula at Tina "Do you know Bette carried you to your bed last night?"

Tina winced at the embarrassment she felt due to the previous night before rolling her eyes, "Vaguely"

"Tina!" Her mother scolded with a whiny voice.

Tina’s eyes widened as she shrugged innocently, "What?"

"Don’t ruin your chances with Helena cause you’re busy havin’ fun and reminiscin’ with Bette" Her mother said as she went back to cooking.

Tina pursed her lips to hold back what she wanted to say. It was so much more than that for her but she chose not to voice it. Besides, Bette obviously didn’t feel the same if she signed the papers. Maybe Tina’s drunken actions ruined things before they even began . . well, more like restarted.

"You have nothin’ to worry about, momma. I’m goin’ to the post office to mail the divorce papers"

Her mother stuck her head out again with a satisfied smile, "Good girl, you want some breakfast?"

She held out a plate filled with greasy bacon and eggs topped with melted cheese, Tina felt her mouth water as another wave of nausea hit. Her eyes widened as she placed a hand over her mouth and turned to run out of the house much to her mother’s confusion.

    *****

As Tina mailed the divorce papers, she felt empty inside. It was an odd feeling, like being hollow and in many ways it confused the blonde. She thought she would have felt happiness or even relief but neither of those were present. She handed the envelope to the mail clerk and were instantly filled with thoughts of Bette and the night before. She knew how badly she messed things up, not just with the brunette but with her friends too and she wasn’t going back to New York until she set things right.

    2. So sorry for your loss, just remember the good times. The story is really wonderful and you are pacing it just fine. You did however leave us hangin’ just a little and I understand but, still I wanted just a bit more. Wish they would admit to wanting each other again and never having stopped loving each other. helena should have contacted Tina before announcing the engagement, that was totally unfair. But in the end helena will have egg on her face, at least I hope. Thanks for taking the time to post while in mourning, it is really appreciated.
