Best Thing That’s Ever Happened To Me
Jo seemed to be back in good spirits, taking the news from her doctor in Ann Arbor in stride. If she was worried about what had happened to her in the plane, she hid it well. Instead, she’d been embarrassed that Becca had seen her in such a state. But Becca managed to assure the stud that she had nothing to worry about. “Your pride may have taken a hit,” Becca winked as she finished fluffing Jo’s pillow, and gently led Jo to lie back down. “But stud status is intact.”
A wicked look crossed those blue eyes as she motioned to Becca to hold her hand, as she lay back against the fluffed pillows, as instructed. “I think this whole thing may have been a ruse on my part.”
If not for the worried feeling Becca still had about Jo’s health, Becca would not have missed the fluttery feeling in her stomach as Jo grabbed her hand. But she didn’t fail to note that the monitor tracking Jo’s heart rate started beeping a little faster. Especially after Jo started to stroke her palm, and trace circles on the soft skin below her palm.
“A ruse?”
“Yeah. A ruse. A way to spend more time with you.” Devilish wink.
“You must be all the way back if you’re flirting with me like that.” Becca shook her head. One of the things they’d talked about while waiting to board the plane was Jo’s warning that she could never help herself when around pretty girls. The memory flashed quickly in her mind as she acquiesced to Jo’s suggestion that she lay next to Jo on the hospital bed.
“You’ll flirt even with girls who are girlfriends of your friends?” Becca teased while they shuffled to the line forming in the lane designated for the premium class cabin.
Jo leaned over to whisper in her ear. “The girl’s got to be devastatingly pretty, of course. Like you are. So, yeah, especially with girls who are girlfriends of friends. I just see it as a challenge.”
Becca met that with a frown. “Are you flirting with me?”
Jo looked back at her squarely, no longer teasing. “Yes, I am. Does that bother you?”
The line to board the plane started moving. This time, Becca leaned over to whisper, “No, it doesn’t. Give it your best shot, Jo. You’ll find I won’t be easily impressed, even by the cutest stud I’ve ever met.”

Skydancer,
You have strangled me with grief! My God! What a traumatic delivery you’ve written.
Triggering stuff. Keep going.
All the best luck,
Blackbird
Thanks,
Had to get it out of my head.
U, on the other hand, are awesome. I see you flex there, with Gentleman Jack. I mean, what can’t you do?
You do the best stuff here, Blackbird.
Hey Skydancer, Nice to be in touch again. What of yours should I read tonight or whenever you get this request? Presently, just so you’ll know how to guide me to the stories you think I’d enjoy, I’m in the headspace of being on the edge of a story about to birth. It’s a tale about Anne Lister’s watch and how she behaves with, or toward it. The watch has power. It came from someplace special and came especially to her. For all those reasons and more I’d like to know Anne Lister’s watch’s origin story,
My sincere thanks for your compliment on my Gentleman Jack series. I’ve been off writing many other types of things and have been away from even thinking about fanfiction until, as Anne Lister might say, “Good Lord.”
My “Good Lord” moment was when the characters hooked me during episode three of Gentleman Jack.
Okay, recommendations of what of yours I should read.
Be well, Skydancer. The moon is out tonight.
Blackbird
Skydancer, Wonderful narration. Vivid view into Becca’s pain. Eager for a glimpse into her and Jo’s magical train ride. Great beginning!
Thanks, took a while to get it together.
Yup, you guessed it. The train ride was and will be the piece de resistance of this whole thing, in my mind, that I found that I could not not write down.
Hope all is well!
Skydancer, you’ve written some wonderful stories over the years but, this is stellar. Thanks for sharing. Can hardly wait for more. Thanks for posting,
