Nobis Pacem Chapter 1
Diane gave her a kiss that started as a quick one, maybe, but it deepened. After several moments, I started to stand, but Jules’ arm shot out, and locked her fingers around my wrist in a vice grip. A few seconds later, they broke their kiss, and both looked at me, apologetically.
I smiled at them, as if to say they didn’t have to apologize.
“So why do you feel that way, Aerin?” Jules asked, assuming the big sister voice that she used sometimes, when she wanted to convince me about something.
I sighed. “You’ve seen her, Jules. She could have anyone in this city begging to be with her if she so much as winked at them. Plus, I don’t even know whether she likes women. I’ve only ever seen her with men. And hunky, sexiest-men-alive type of men, at that.”
But Jules and Diane were persistent.
“Have you seen any of these men around since that night?” Diane asked.
I frowned a bit, and, in my mind’s eye, tried to recollect. Come to think of it, I haven’t.
“The last one I’ve seen around her was the guy she basically kicked out, on the night that she took care of me.”
Jules smiled. “Yeah, she told me about him the next day when she came over, and we talked while you’d taken a nap.”
Jules and Diane looked at each other, and after a few moments, Diane asked, “Should I tell her, or-“
“Why don’t you tell her, babe?” Jules answered.
I looked at both of them curiously, not knowing what to expect.
“Aerin, honey, we’ve been talking to Chris,” Diane started.
For some reason I felt nervous. So I exclaimed, “YOU WHAT?!”
Okay, that came out like a mini-explosion, actually.
“Easy, honey,” Diane cooed, as Jules rubbed my forearm affectionately to settle me down. “Well, we wanted to find out what her intentions were, seeing that each of us had seen her here every time we’d come over or had noticed that she’d stayed after we’d left.”
I licked my lips, and my thoughts dove into a bunker, devising options for how I should process this bombshell. It wasn’t like I felt ….oh, fuck. Yes, it WAS like I felt somewhat humiliated, betrayed –

Bette and tina????
Here in spirit. But this is about a few special L words that play out in a couple’s life in another part of town. In the fringes of the world of the series I’ve been writing; but different. Hope you like it.
What a beautiful story! Your writing is such a treat to read as you evoke every emotion.
Will try this again. Left a message about 4:00 this morning and something happened, it’s not posted. My message was to thank you for posting such a beautiful love story. And that I hope this story will be continued we would like to know what happens to Aerin in the future. Thanks for sharing.
What an amazing story ! So glad I stumbled upon this treasure !
Sad and sweet -but you said it complete.
Dainty, Hellbent, and new friends: thanks for the comments. Honestly: was tough to pull this together, but it was worth it. Am v glad you liked it. Ok. I hear you. It may take a while for an update on her story, but it will be coming.
Well this was a pleasant surprise. I am always seeking an episode from your creativity. So much, I had to buy a smaller electronic device so that I might read your input on the go. Now, for me buying another electronic anything is saying a lot. I am one of the “dial phone” “get up and change the channel” “do not Text me and expect an answer” old school DIE HARD. But, your writing genius persuaded me to become a mobile reader at my neighborhood “coffee house.” Please continue to write
Beautiful story. I could feel Aerin’s struggle. I would love to read about the 18 months in between their first time and Chris’ final moments. I sure it would be moving.
