    Nobis Pacem Chapter 1

“It won’t be a problem for me, Chris,” she said quickly, decisively. “The people who know me and care about me won’t feel anything but happiness for me – for us – if we let this happen. You must know enough about me by now that the snipes and slings and arrows of everybody else other than them won’t amount to much in my book.”

“There are those in the wider world, Aerin, who could be cruel to you –“

“Or to you?” she asked. Her embrace tightened a bit as she asked, “Is it your world that can make this a problem, Chris? Will this affect your reputation?”

I had to smile at that. “It would have been, to be honest with you, a few years ago. But there’ve been bigger age disparities in so many relationships involving top people in this industry, so it’s less of a thing now.”

    “Even gay relationships?” she asked.

“You can’t imagine how much air time these relationships have gotten behind the scenes, and in front of the cameras, too,” I answered. “The most attended informal sessions during a few movers-and-shakers types of global conferences have been about these, in fact, because so many big names have family members or close friends, or others, who are gay, so it’s become such a personal cause even for those big names.”

“Hmmm… if it’s not a problem for me; and not a problem for you – whose problem is it, Chris?” she asked plaintively.

“Not so easy to describe, honey,” I said carefully, not knowing how closely I could skirt to the core issue. I considered how I should approach this: so much was riding on it.

She let me figure things out in silence.

I decided to go with her avowed trust in me, remembering that she’d said several times over the past two months she knew I would never hurt her.

“If this works –“ I started.

“It will. I’m determined to make it work. And so are you, I can tell,” she interrupted, again.

“Then there’ll come a time where it will be more likely than not that I could … um … go ahead of you,” I continued, phrasing it as gently as possible. “And, anticipating that, you have to know that I don’t think I can bear being the cause of that type of hurt for you, again –“

      • Here in spirit. But this is about a few special L words that play out in a couple’s life in another part of town. In the fringes of the world of the series I’ve been writing; but different. Hope you like it.

    1. Will try this again. Left a message about 4:00 this morning and something happened, it’s not posted. My message was to thank you for posting such a beautiful love story. And that I hope this story will be continued we would like to know what happens to Aerin in the future. Thanks for sharing.

    2. Dainty, Hellbent, and new friends: thanks for the comments. Honestly: was tough to pull this together, but it was worth it. Am v glad you liked it. Ok. I hear you. It may take a while for an update on her story, but it will be coming.

      • Well this was a pleasant surprise. I am always seeking an episode from your creativity. So much, I had to buy a smaller electronic device so that I might read your input on the go. Now, for me buying another electronic anything is saying a lot. I am one of the “dial phone” “get up and change the channel” “do not Text me and expect an answer” old school DIE HARD. But, your writing genius persuaded me to become a mobile reader at my neighborhood “coffee house.” Please continue to write

    3. Beautiful story. I could feel Aerin’s struggle. I would love to read about the 18 months in between their first time and Chris’ final moments. I sure it would be moving.
