Crossing The Streams 4 – The Two Rays

    Erin: Crisis?

Jillian: Crisis on Infinite Earths. Come on, Erin I mean Batman was in that! And Owlman… he was the evil version, but he was only in it for a few panels before his Earth died.

Jillian closes her eyes and shakes her head.

Jillian: You haven’t read that yet have you?

    Erin: I don’t think I have.

Jillian: Oh. So uhh… spoiler alert? Even though it was thirty years ago. Anyway, you should read it, it’s good. Just don’t read Killing Joke, that crap is balls.

    Erin: Um, Jillian?

Jillian: Huh? Oh! Yeah. That Spengler dude who used me like a ventriloquist puppet, he said he was from a different version of Earth, right? Maybe that’s what I was seeing while possessed.

    Erin: Multiple Earths…

Erin looks away for a second, then back to Jillian as she talks.

Erin: There have been different theories about a multiverse for years. Heck, there are new ones still coming out today. Abby and I have had talks about that before. She had this theory that each universe was self contained so it couldn’t interfere with the others, possibly separated by quasars. We’ve dealt with invaders from a ghost world, but it was more of a different plane of existence.

    Jillian: That’s where Rowan is.

Erin: Exactly. What if the ghost we encountered today was warning us of Rowan attempting to raid us again?

Jillian: And this time… maybe finding another group of ghosts from Spengler’s world.

Erin: And then teaming up to come after all of us.

This is not the kind of conversation was hoping to have on a date night.

Erin: Okay, I need to get to work.

Erin places the paper on the bed to her right and reaches out for Jillian’s hands, which Jillian accepts.

Erin: You have been a wonderful date. I hope we can do this again, next time somewhere other than the office.

Jillian: I’m fine wherever we’re at.

Jillian leans in for a kiss, which Erin accepts. They slowly pull back.

Jillian: You don’t mind if I crash here do ya? If I go home, I might wind up bouncing off the walls until I come back.

    Erin grins.

Erin: I don’t mind at all. But I do need to work.

Jillian: That’s cool. I’ll finish up the pizza in the break room and watch something on the T.V. I’ll try not snore too loud. …I mean it this time.

    Erin smiles.

    Erin: Okay. Goodnight.

    Jillian: ‘Night.

Erin wants to stay in the room with her. She wants to pull her out of the room and just take her to wherever she is going. She knows that is time to work and be on watch with Abby, Patty, and Kevin having already left. She also knows that if she brings Jillian with her, it could become hard to concentrate with the date still fresh. Begrudgingly, she walks away and exits the room as Jillian looks on.

Now in the room alone, Jillian Holtzmann is ready to change into her pajamas and curl into a ball on her bed. This is the slowing down, where everything catches up.
