    “Ran Out”

    Claire
Blessed Sacrament (I apologize, I do not recall if the name of the school has been said).

    Maddie
A Catholic school? Are you Catholic?

    Claire
Kinda. Baptized, 1st communion things. But beyond school, I don’t go to church. You?

    Maddie
Same. Except the school thing. Its just kinda there ya know?

    Claire
    Exactly. Where do you go?
They arrive to the pond. Maddie continues in a whisper to not scare the frogs

    Maddie
Pine Hill. Junior. What grade are you?

    Claire
    9th grade.

    Maddie
Check it out. Little ones all along the ledge.

It was amazing how many frogs were lining the edge of the pond. Everytime they took a step, another one jumped in. They were fast. Claire couldn’t help but smile.

    Claire
So, how do you get close enough to catch one?

    Maddie
    Patiently. Watch.

Quietly and slowly, Maddie inched her way to the water’s edge. It was as if she was frozen for a few seconds. Then, she quickly reached her hands around a frog. It slipped and almost got away, but she got it!

Yeah. That’s how its done. Come check him out.

    Claire
Wow. That was fast. I can’ believe you are catching frogs. Its like you have the excitement of a 6 year old.

    Maddie
I’ll take that as a compliment, thank you. She lets the frog go. Its good to feel like a little kid every so often. You’re turn. (whispers again) Now remember, slowly, and quietly get to the edge. Then, commit to the catch.

Claire tried a few times completely missing. She almost fell in a few times. Her arms are covered with pond water/mud and she has some splatter on her face, but still is smiling.

    Maddie
Don’t take this the wrong way, but you have a wonderful smile. Its good to finally see it. Claire looks away trying not smile. Try again. This time, I’m gonna walk to the right and distract it while you try from the left.

Slowly and quietly, Claire creeped up behind the frog on the left, while Maddie took its focus on the right. Silently, she mouthed “1, 2, 3, go!”. Claire grasped the frog between her hands practically covering herself in the mud.

    Maddie
    Success! Are you alright?

    Claire
(Laughing) I did it. I caught one! I can’t believe it.

    Maddie
You are so covered . Let me give you a hand.

      • Sorry this is like 2 months late, but I have not been on here since I wrote that due to finishing grad school….6 days to go. But thank you. I haven’t written fanfiction before. Just a big fan of the show and I don’t think they get into claire’s character enough. Thanks for your feedback!
I don’t follow Caitlyn on twitter. What would her name be on there?

    1. I really like your story! I really hope you write more about Claire and Maddie’s friendship in the future! Maybe you can continue this story? Anyway you’re a really good writer and I really liked the interaction between Claire and Maddie.

      • Thank you! Claire is an awesome character and I think she has more to say then she has been able to. I think she needed a good role model to have a friendship with where there was no chance of romance. Sometimes thats just what you need. I hope to write more once grad school finishes this month. Thanks for reading! (PS, grad school is why I have not responded until now).

        • I totally agree! I really like Claire and sometimes I’m sad that they don’t give her more storyline. I think they could do so much more with her character! And I totally relate with having a good role model to have as a friendship and nothing more. Good luck on grad school! I totally understand, I’m also busy with school right now! Anyway I think you did a great job on this one!
