Knock You Down – (Chapter: 1. You got me thinkin about our life, our house, and kids)
“Confident doesn’t suit you” I reply and he stays where he is, we both know that he is no ladies man
He rolled his eyes, “What’s her name?” he asked
“I have no idea” I replied giving him back the ball
Seconds before the ball was launched in the air I swear I saw Satan laughing at me in his eyes, I groaned and puffed as I made my way back over to the blonde, inside I was ecstatic but on my exterior I was unreadable.
She was ready for me this time, a playful smirk on her lips, “Hey you promised that it wouldn’t happen again, you lied” her laugh deafened me, in the best way possible
I could feel my confidence dwindling away with every word she said to me, I had to regain some kind of control if I wasn’t to make it out alive, “Well the first time was an accident, this time it was on purpose”
“Oh I see”
“I’m Ashley”
“Nice to meet you Ashley, I’m Spencer…and this is my friend Kyla”
I continued to stare at her a few seconds longer before I acknowledged her friend, “Hi Kyla…So I was just wondering, if you’re not busy later if you guys want to hang out tonight, I heard that they have karaoke here later”
I was quite impressed with my invitation, but it seemed the blonde wasn’t
“Oh I don’t know…” come on, come on
“She’d love to.” Thank you, Kyla
She shared a look with her friend and I literally felt like a fool as I waited her response.
“Yeah, I’d love to” she finally said
Wasn’t expecting that, I forgot the cocky angle I was supposed to play and started to act like the fool I was desperately trying to conceal. I managed to leave her side with only some of my dignity shattered and about half of my self esteem lost, and only a few mild jokes from my older brother who had viewed the entire exchange from the side lines, much to his amusement.
I couldn’t explain what attracted me to her, if it was her seemingly calming presence, or the positive energy she seemed to possess. I couldn’t give a reasonable explanation as to why I continued to stare her way even after being caught, my eyes found safety and if they could talk they would only sigh in contentment every time they rested on her figure. I couldn’t fathom my curiosity about her, I wanted to know everything about her, I wanted to read her book, a million times over. The pull towards her was magnetic, I never struggled, my resistance was nil. Nothing about the way I was acting was familiar to me or my family, to them she was a long awaited savior, swooping in to capture my soul in an effortless heist. I was unrecognizable to my siblings, they relished in those rare moments when I was ‘normal’ as they put it, wanting to meet the girl that made me want to actually have a family dinner and turned their baby sister into some little kid at Disney world, literally. My apprehensions were fair, because I knew how they’ve acted in the past when meeting my acquaintances, there’s a reason that none of those potentials never made it to my future, if they didn’t run away without looking back then they simply weren’t up to the high standards that were set for me. When it came down to it I was nervous about Spencer meeting my siblings, only for a brief second before I saw her smiling the night I went to pick her up at her place so we could watch a movie, I saw her smile and I knew she would pass with flying colors. If for some reason she didn’t, well it didn’t matter to me because I knew that the shivers she had from our touches and the gasps of breath she sometimes had when we were close were real, and I hoped that she noticed when they came from me as well.
