A Different L: Episode 8 Part 2
Karen: …I am so sorry.
Laurel has pushed herself to whatever limits she can in rehabilitating physically. Now comes the emotions as the two rush to one another and embrace, Karen unconcerned about Laurel’s perspiration affecting her or her clothing. Ted nods slowly. His guess is that this hug and the series of kisses that follow could take a while.
Ted: Yeah, we’ll just take a break here.
The day progresses to what shall soon be evening. The Sun is still out at 6 p.m. as Lyla now finds herself face to face with members of SHIELD while at the ARGUS base.
Phil: We know you have them. Bring ‘em out.
Agent May narrows her eyes toward Lyla. There is still a level of mistrust between SHIELD and ARGUS.
Lyla: You don’t understand the agreement when it comes to Task Force X.
Victoria: There is no Task Force X. Not anymore. They need to join the program as it is now. This is an age of accountability and we cannot afford to have another Suicide Squad, because one day this project is going to come back on you, which now means it comes back on us.
Lyla: Because you and Maria Hill are in charge now. Is that right?
Phil: We just need you to bring them out so we can ensure that they’re no longer a threat.
Lyla looks off to her left side for a moment. “This is it,” she thinks. She then looks back to Phil and Victoria.
Lyla: I’m afraid I can’t do that, sir.
Victoria: And why not?
Lyla: Because you don’t understand the agreement.
Victoria: There is no agreement between SHIELD and ARGUS concerning Task Force X.
Lyla: I never said the agreement involved SHIELD. The agreement is between ARGUS and the task force itself.
Melinda: So then it is true.
Lyla: What is, Agent May?
Melinda: You capture criminals with special skills, turn them into a team that does your dirty work and once they’ve served, they’re free to go.
Lyla: Their debt to society paid in full. That doesn’t doesn’t extend to SHIELD.
Phil: Like hell it doesn’t! You have soldiers, warriors, criminals who are ready to risk their lives for a pardon! And then what? You let them go back out into the world, where they can commit more crimes?
