A Perfect Design–Chapter 4

Tina felt tears starting to well up in her eyes as she opened her mouth to speak but was interrupted by the paging system.
”Dr. Kennard you are needed on the Oncology floor”
”I better get going Peggy. You have about another hour to go ok. Susan will give you some anti nausea medication to help. I’m not going to lie to you. This is going to make you very ill feeling for the next 24-48 hours but by the third day you should be feeling better. Please don’t hesitate to call for me if you need me. Susan will be here until 11pm and then Rose will be here on the night shift. They will take very good care of you” Tina explained as she got up to leave.
”Don’t you worry about me dear. I’ll be alright” Peggy assured as she turned her attention back to the magazine she was reading.
Tina made her way to the elevator hitting the oncology floor button and stood blankly staring at the elevator panel thinking about what Jacob would have looked like, how he would have sounded, if he would have looked more like her, or would have looked like his father. All these thoughts ran through her head as the elevator doors opened breaking her out of her thoughts.
As Tina exited the elevator she looked to up and smiled seeing Bette standing at the nurses station and a quickly wiping her eyes she walked over to greet her.
”Hey Bette” Tina called out as Bette turned and smiled
”Hey Tina. I’m sorry if I’m a little early. If you are busy I could come back later”
Tina shook her head
”No not at all. In fact I was just about to have some lunch. Have you eaten yet?”
”No I haven’t. I have been too busy looking at offices and houses and haven’t had much luck” Bette replied shaking her head
”Would you be opposed to eating with me down at the cafeteria? They have a really good salad bar” Tina asked hoping Bette would say yes. She needed a distraction to take her mind off of Jacob.
”Sure that sounds great. I need to get something for Alice to eat also. She had one too many last night and I promised her I would bring her back something to eat”

TINA is oblivious to the effects she has on people and the kissing on the cheek is the door opening BETTE probably was needing. To lose a child however devastating TINA needs to stop beating herself up about what she should have done and remember the good she has since done in trying to find a cure and the quality of lives for her patients she has improved.BETTE is one smart lady.thanks
With the death of his son, Tina looks like
closed to their families, and Bette will
be the light that will make Tina finds happiness.
The entire constellation.
looking forward to your next post; great update
Harley96 so glad to see you back and posting again. I love this story and im so happy to see you writing again. I love the whole concept of this story. Tina dealing with so much grief and being a guardian angel to so many others, now being able to find her own savior in Bette. Please post soon!
Harley,
I believe that I absorbed the fact in the phone call between her and her mother that she hasn’t cleaned out her deceased son’s bedroom, much less belongings in all these years. Now, that’s creepy, very creepy, and interesting that Tina has this dark side of denial, or at best severe procrastination, not too mention a very patient Mother.
You foreshadowed a lot in the story with cracks, and buildings, and space being sought after and constructed. I definitely felt the presence and pressure of building things and emotions. Then, I wondered about the lake – a completely different image and thing.
Especially so, since you spent time on it being discussed and somewhat constructed in both character’s minds at the end. Now, I wonder what you have planned for the new lake. It definitely rules out drowning, as the cause of death for Tina’s young son, because she would be much less friendly toward those still waters.
As before me have said: Nice job, happy to read more when you post, and interesting beginning.

Love this story, anytime our girls are put in a new setting and profession such as a doctor makes for a great read. Sad Tina has lost a child to cancer at such a young age, herself included. I trust that Bette will help get her to face her past and fill her lonely heart. look forward to next post.
