    The brunette smiles.

    Tina – You know that I’m from North Carolina, right?

    Bette – Uh-huh!

    Tina – That will be quite the story in my hometown. (pause) Is that a problem for you?

    Bette – For me?

    The blonde smiles teasingly.

    Tina – Dating a ghostly Southern woman who can’t keep a tan?

    Bette – I love that you are pink all over … and I adore your accent!

    She smirks.

    Tina – Then it’s settled! I’ll tell my parents that they’d better get over Eric because … their daughter likes golden skin and chocolate nipples! And her girlfriend loves that she’s pink all over!

    She laughs and lies down, resting her face on the brunette’s lap again.

    Tina – I wish it was that easy … (pause) Gosh … how my life has changed!

    Bette – Is that a problem for you?

    She strokes her hair again.

    Tina – I think that … the problem is the lesbian part … My parents are not ready for it.

    Bette – What about the African part?

    Tina – I don’t think it will matter … not to them. And definitely not after the L part.

    She looks up.

    Tina – And if it doesn’t matter to you … then it doesn’t matter to me.

    Bette – It doesn’t matter to me.

    Tina – What about your family?

    Bette – I have a father and a sister. My mother was white. Nothing matters to my sister. The L matters to Daddy.

    Tina – Where is your mom?

    Bette – She passed away years ago.

    Tina – I’m sorry …

    The gallery owner nods.

    Tina – So … are we a lesbian mixed-race couple?

    Bette – Are we a couple?

    She turns serious.

    Tina – What do you think happened last night?

    The brunette caresses her face.

    Bette – You tell me.

    They smile at each other.

    3. Loving this….Tina is so smitten. Bette seams to be allowing Tina to set the tempo for the relationship. Two nights in a row in Bette’s bed after a month of pursuit. Nice…. Bette has been amazingly patient. Tina’s parents being in North Carolina, it could take several months before they are told about Tina’s new relationship.

      Keep the chapters coming…. great story so far.

      It seems Mr. Kennard already figured out that his daughter likes Bette more than alone as friend. Glad to hear him say to Tina that she will always be his daughter.

      It is important that Tina takes the time and Bette let her, to come out to her friends and parents.

    5. Thanks for posting! I love your version of T + B’s beginning but I’m still anxious about Tina’s parents and their reaction to their daughter being in a relationship with a woman..
