Against All Odds – Chapter 17

Amy brought her hand to her ears and kept her eyes shut tight, "I said stop it!"

Tina was surprised by the outburst to say the least. She didn’t say anything for a while. She just listened to the broken cries of the woman before her.

    "Where is she?!"

Bette held a struggling Lyrus by its neck, suspended in air. Its legs were swinging wildly, its arms had a firm grip on Bette’s wrist but she didn’t loosen her grip on bit.

She made it to the dungeons only to find each cell either empty or housing everything but Tina. Beyond frustrated and scared beyond belief, she began to backtrack. She ran into a Lyrus who was coming down into the dungeon for some reason. Bette’s interrogation began a split second after.

The Lyrus squirmed and began to wheeze but said nothing. Apparently they feared double crossing Jodi more than Bette had hoped. She squeezed a little tighter.

"Either you say something now or you die"

It was weird at first to see the yellow scaly skin of the Lyrus begin to turn blue but Bette didn’t show any mercy. She was getting desperate, she needed to find Tina.

Just then she heard a faint scream echo through the halls. Her head turned in the direction of the sound. It wasn’t familiar but it wasn’t something to be ignored either. She turned back to the Lyrus and slammed its head against the wall, knocking it unconscious.

She dropped the limp body and ran off in the direction of the scream. She listened for another but it didn’t matter to her when there was none. It had been years since she walked these fortress halls but time didn’t change anything. She knew exactly where that scream had come from.

    "Shit, I’m hit!"

"Dammit! Where are they all coming from?"

Shane used her last arrow to shoot an enemy running down the stairs. The arrow pierced its chest, causing an instant death and for the body to roll down the long staircase knocking into other soldiers in front of it.

    1. This is going to be tense… I hope Tina is able to relay whatever it is that will help defeat Jodi. And that whatever Kit gave Shane to help in fighting Dana works. Can’t wait for the finale! Thank you :)
