“I understand,” the man answered, chuckled lightly. “Believe me, I do. We get deadlines like this all the time. But I don’t think we ever had an order come in from your area.”

This time it was Bette who chuckled back, an ironic, tired-sounding one. “I guess that’s good news for me then, since I won’t have any competition.”

“No, I’m pretty sure you won’t, at least not for the coffee you’re going to serve. What kind of café is it going to be anyway?”

    Bette hesitated.

The man added hastily, “Only asking in case you’ll need something that I know other people sell, or something. To help you with your sourcing.”

“Umm… it’s a next-generation kind of café. I’ve seen a few in London and Paris, and I wanted to do one here.”

“I can see it,” the man said, “I can see how my machine can work in a café like that. But out there, though? How would something like that work? Quite rural where you are, I mean. Isn’t it?”

It was a question Bette ran into repeatedly throughout the remodeling project of the building she’d bought and had redesigned herself. The contractor, an outfit Cathy had vetted, had been skeptical at first. Even curious towns folk who’d dropped by the site didn’t hide their low opinion of the soundness of Bette’s café idea.

Surprisingly, the people in the ad agency in Billings that she’d worked with to design and then set up freeway billboard ads were openly questioning also, pressing the young brunette at every turn whether she really wanted them to put a rush into the production of the billboards and installation of the permits.

“Hard work, sticking to my vision, that’s how I’ll make it work. I’m banking on generating buzz out of the early crowd I’m hoping to attract, too,” she answered now.

“But how did you come up with the idea of setting up a café like that in the first place?”

“The idea struck me as I drove around here a month ago, and the idea kept nagging on me. I looked at other things, but once the idea wormed inside, I committed to it, and once I’m committed to an idea, I don’t hold anything back. I’ll dive in, 100% commitment.”

    1. Skydancer, thank you for the update.

I was certain you would bring Tina in the café to meet Bette. But maybe it is Tina and she had to change her name too and needed to hide.

Lena or Tina doesn’t matter at the, moment, Bette can use some tender loving to reliesh her stress.

      • Nice chapter, skydancer. In some email exchanges with @Jacky, she’s passed on to me that she doesn’t expect, nor want writers to self-censor. Just write what you want and let the chips fall where they may. Gotta love that woman. I would just avoid keywords that would be caught by any sniffer. I’m sure you have an idea of what words might attract attention. Other than that, I say bring on the TLC!

    2. Really like this so far. If not mistaken, in the first chapter, I believe that I read that a film crew would be in the area very soon. So if you didn’t change Tinas’ occupation, then that is when she will show up. Right? Must go back and read that first chapter for some clarification of all this. Thanks for sharing. Can hardly wait for Tina to appear.

      • Hi @Jane, I was referring to warning or instructions you see when you start to post a new chapter or story. The warning is new, and informs you that Google is screening for mature content in the text, not just in pics that are posted. Since the site relies on Google providing a platform for it (I think), I took it seriously. I also took it to mean Google is screening other posted chapters (and I’ve posted a bunch of chapters with sexy scenes, so ….). But @Jacky is saying not to worry, so, I guess that means I can (?) does that clear it up for you?

    3. Hmmm, very, very interesting. Our favorite girls having to survive in a Red State, living underground, and communicating thru code! Sort of like life right now! Again. Please keep writing so I can relive this
