As Good As It Gets – Chapter 4

"Hey" Bette sighed. She may have felt guilty at the fact she wished her caller was someone else but she couldn’t hide the fact that she was still upset with Ava.

"Listen . . I just wanted to call and say that I was sorry for last night. I hate that we fought over something so petty"

"Petty?" The word escaped Bette’s lips with laughter, she couldn’t help it. Ava was unbelievable.

"Okay, maybe not petty but it was pretty dumb babe you have to admit that"
"Ava, seriously" Bette rested her elbow on her desk as she closed her eyes and began to massage her forehead, "If you’re calling to try and justify-"

"No! No, I’m not. I’m sorry" Ava rushed out. Bette was never one to get her kicks from making someone beg for forgiveness or from apologizing a million times before accepting it, that was more Ava’s playing field but she felt that Ava’s apology was a little *too* rushed. It didn’t sit right with her.
"Do you even know what you’re sorry for?" Bette asked suspiciously. In the beginning she was filled with a tiny ray of hope that Ava was trying to change but she was seriously proven wrong when there was silence on the other end.
    "Ava?"

"I’m sorry we fought okay?! God, I don’t know what else to say! I admit, I acted like a child to Tina when we where children mind you but I’m sorry okay?"
"Ava" Bette sighed deeply and shook her head at how clueless Ava really was. She had no idea the depths of their problems and that really bothered Bette. Did Ava even care at all? It sounded like she was more concerned on gaining Bette’s forgiveness than anything else. That’s all Ava ever seemed to be concerned about, something that Bette often overlooked.

    "What?"
"What you did to Tina years ago has nothing to do with why we fought. Or even why we keep fighting" Bette tried to keep her tone as calm as possible though something inside her churned, making her lose the urge to even put up with Ava. She was slowly finding it hard to see the reason why she put up with so much for so long.

    1. Neither one is married to their GFs so break it off as gently as possible and then see where their relationship can go. It may burn fast and furious and then flame out or it might be the “Eternal Flame”.

    2. Thanks for the posting… Wow! I wish that relationships didn’t get into the desperation phase when their time of completion was over.I know that letting go is hard but when the relationship has come to its end being miserable is truly not the way to go. Holding on to something that isn’t there is a cruel thing to do to yourself. Life is too short to be so miserable. Let go to Sam, Tina! Let go of Ava, Bette. Its okay to do that as being miserable is not evolving. guess maybe its a fear that everyone will look at us as being failures in a relationship, but honestly that isn’t what the truth of it is. Others come into our lives for a reason, a season or a lifetime… to reflect back to us parts of ourselves… our past, our present or a possible future.

    3. Oh, WOW!!! This will be the forever kind of love with these two when they finally get together. Please let them both know somehow that their girlfriends are having affairs and they don’t have to be feeling guilty to break off their respective relationships. They are so right for each other. Awesome chapter. Thanks.

    4. loving it! I just think if Tina is so eager to get Bette to realize that Tina’s is better for her than Ava then Tina should not seem guilty about Sam, I mean she shouldn’t seem unsure herself. Hope to read more soon Liah! Thanks :D

    5. I hope Bette has now gotten all the encouragement she needs to do the right thing and end it with Ava. Tina has some thinking of her own to do. In the mean time, Helena needs to give up with the pursuit of Tina already. But… if she waits around long enough, she can be there to “console” Ava. They would likely be a perfect match. ;) Thanks for the post, Liah! :)

    6. There is an analogy that I have in mind for Bette and Tina’s situation but words fail me right now. I love where you have taken this story, I feel like you’re trying on something new. You’re doing a great job conveying Bette’s turmoil, and I love that you made Tina intuitive enough to pick up on it. The fact that she had the audacity to bring it up shows immense courage. I’m glad that they’re taking time apart to evaluate their own relationships. Doing the right thing in other words. I have a question for you, do you feel that a story is easier to write if sides are black and white and Bette and Tina’s? They’re both unhappy in their current relationships and should be with each other. Would they have felt the same way about each other if they were happy with their girlfriends? Ok that’s 2 questions but I just love how you weave your stories. You really do love us. Thank you for the awesome post Miss Liah. I hope I don’t offend you with my questions.

    7. Oh this just getting more, and more interesting . I can’t wait to see how each will handle this situation. And how they deal with they feel about each other. What will each decide and will they end up together . Can’t wait post soon
