The Hamptons, Suffolk County, New York – January 3, 11 am –Peabody Manor.
Peggy’s beach house was one of the larges properties in the Hamptons. Peabody Manor was bought by Wilson Peabody a few months before he married Peggy. After Wilson’s death, Peggy didn’t use the property for two or three years. Finally, looking for a recreation place for her daughter, family, and friends, she decided to take care of the place, reforming and rebuilding most of the property.
Peabody manor has a small vineyard and a fruits patch, with three employees working there for her. The patch and the vineyard, provide some of the most exquisite fruits, juices, wine, and cider for Peggy’s restaurant in Manhattan. The property also comprises a fountain at the entrance with three beautiful gardens, a big parking place, a tennis court, two swimming pools, a big terrace facing the beach, which could be used on occasions as dancing, or dining place or both at the same time.
Peabody manor has three major buildings, the main house at the center of the property. There is a small building next to the vineyard, where it was located the wine and the fruit cellars, the cider mill, the employees’ services, and housing. On the other side of the main house, it’s located a building with several luxurious rooms to host guests. And, of course, it has a private beach with a little pier and three yachts.
Peggy, Sharon, and Helena were in the manor since Christmas; the rest of the family and friends came after a few days. Louise brought Mabel the day before Bette and Tina arrived; Kit arrived at the same time. Alice, Dana, Shane, and Carmen came on the night of the thirtieth.
In some way, Mabel was convinced by Kit and Louise that she has to be patient with Tina and behave politely and calmly. Bette and Tina arrived before noon on the last day of the year. The festivity was nice, and the small party was exciting, warm, and peaceful.
But there was something that has been puzzling Bette and Tina. When yesterday they expressed their desire to go back to Bette’s house Peggy gave them many reasons to remain there:
“Come on girls, stay one day more, my chef will make a special dinner tomorrow and I want you to enjoy it”.
Then in the evening, a weird thing happened to Bette’s car; suddenly, three of the new tires were flat and Peggy wasn’t willing to give her help so soon. Today early in the morning after breakfast, Bette and Tina decided to take a walk and talk about their suspicions.
Tina: “Peggy is trying to keep us here, what do you think she wants?”
Bette: “I have no idea, but certainly it’s a secret; neither Louise nor even Helena knows about it.”
Tina: “do you think Henry or Halsey or any of your dad’s thugs are looking for you?”
Bette: “I don’t think so, Henry is in a supermax prison, and Halsey is locked in the FBI, my father maybe is out of the country by now…, so I don’t know why she wants to keep us here.”
Tina: “well, we could always ask her.”
Bette: “yeah, good idea, I will ask her this afternoon.”
When both girls were coming back from their walk to the main house, they saw people at the front door; it was a limousine and two SUV cars parked, and a bunch of luggage which the staff was carrying inside. From afar they could identify Kit, Peggy, Sharon, Phyllis, and Mabel talking to someone who was still inside the car.
Unexpectedly, Bette’s heart was pounding, and Tina felt emotional.
Tina: “who has arrived?”
Bette: (babbling) “don’t know.”
Tina: “I have this feeling…, could it be her?”
Bette: (looking carefully) “we have to see…”
They run toward the cars; suddenly, a woman gets of the car with the help of a tanned skin tall man, another redhead man was at their side.
Tina and Bette arrived at the unexpected meeting; it was Maxine.
Bette: (crying and hugging her mother) “mom…”
Maxine, with tears on her eyes, hugged her daughter, and seeing Tina behind, she opened her arm to hug her too. After a little while, they stopped hugging, and Maxine made the introductions.
Maxine: “Tina, I’m happy you’re recovered from your wound, Bette, my baby, I’ve missed you a lot all these years, I have many things to talk with you both, but before, Tina, you already know him; Bette I want to introduce you to your brother Marcus…”

Wow… that was a surprise….. nice birthday gift for Bette and for Tina. I wonder why Tina is so reluctant to get to know Mable? They will may never have a close relationship, but I would think that Tina would have a curiosity as to who this woman is. She is the mother to Louise, her only sister. She gave her 50% of her DNA… Why is Tina just avoid any causal relationship with her. Maybe Maxine can help these two to at least be friendly with one another.
So Melvin is probably in Canada… Wonder who this sorcerer is? Pretty bad when you need to get help from a card reader. Looks like help for Melvin just wasn’t in the cards. And it foretold that Tina (heir to Melvin’s arch-enemy) was already bonded to his own heir Bette Porter…. and together they would bring his downfall. Yeah!!!
Can’t wait to see the next installment of this story….. maybe the rest of the secrets will be revealed.

I don’t think Tina is reluctant to know Mabel, I think she’s insecure and afraid she couldn’t give her biological mother the love she deserves. It’s a psychological problem, but maybe Maxine could help.
Yes, Melvin should be far away now. And you’re right, when you need help from a card reader this is no telling what you want to hear (ha-ha-ha).
Yes, indeed, the prophecy/curse that Marcus’ mother did is happening.
I hope to post soon, but right now my mind is on the Olympics in Tokyo.

Beautiful picture of our ladies and how nice that they are both processing the emotional and physical events. I love you Bette, so caring and concerned about Tina.
Melvin uses a card reader, wow, I never expected that. He can run away but in the end he will be punished for everything he ever did.
And finally, Maxime is back in the country, what great news for Bette and Tina. I look forward to their reunion and their conversations.
