Busy Lives
“Well that’s good. I better get going so I can do some grocery shopping for this evening.”
“Are you and Bette using us as guinea pigs again for some new recipe?”
“No. Not tonight. Angie suggested Mexican. You know she’s taking cooking classes now. She learned how to make tacos this week so we’re doing a make your own taco buffet. You’ll have your choice of hard- or soft-shell tacos. Bette is preparing the beef, chicken and fish. Angie is helping with lettuce, tomatoes, cheeses, and sour cream. I’m making the Mexican rice and re-fried beans, and of course we’ll have chips with guacamole or salsa dip.”
“That sounds amazing. I’ll see you later then.”
“OK. Bye.” Alice and Tina part ways to run their respective errands.

October
Bette, Tina, Shane and Alice formed ‘Team Dana’ and established the Dana Fairbanks Fund for Breast Cancer Awareness and Research to honor a dear friend Dana Fairbanks who was diagnosed with and died of breast cancer several years earlier. Dana was Alice’s best friend for years and they had become lovers just one year before they discovered the cancer. Dana was a young athlete. Her illness and subsequent death were very hard on everyone especially Alice.
Raising funds and participating in annual breast cancer awareness events was something that they committed to do as a group in remembrance. This year they were doing the 10K bike ride. Leigh, Annie, Carmen, and Tasha joined to support their friends and lovers.
November
The Planet was transformed for the Los Angeles Gay and Lesbian Center charity event. The first year they’d done the 80’s theme and everyone had dressed up in 80’s attire, hair and make-up. This year it wasn’t a themed party. They’d set up a variety of entertainment venues and opportunities to donate.
The Carnival Games and auctions were very popular as was the Karaoke and live bands in concert. The dance contest was underway. Alice and Tasha did a lot of talking but they ended up scoring 8 out of 10 points. Bette and Tina were up last. They had to beat a 9.5 score that the couple before them had just achieved. They’d been practicing so were very confident as they waited for their number to be called.

Our girls are busy with their lives and getting things in place to operate when the time comes that they need to take time for the birth of the baby. With Thanksgiving and Christmas coming and their families getting together and growing in numbers is going to be a really joyful occasion for the Kennard-Porter family. Family is not something Bette had a lot of. And since Tina met and fell in love with Bette, her family virtually disappeared as well. They now have more family than they ever imagined.
Why is Jodi snubbing Tina? Jodi ended the relationship not Tina. Jodi didn’t want the relationship and Bette finally saw it. I think its a true and correct assessment that Bette and Jodi will not be friends. Bette was just a shinny new toy in Jodi’s life which she quickly got board with and wanted to move on. And unlike Jodi, Bette was looking for a committed relationship with love and grace and self-fulfillment. That could only be Tina.
Thank you for this chapter….keep them coming…more please?
Great chapter!
They are a very busy family!
Look forward to the next chapter!
Thanks for the trip down memory lane. Technology has changed so much in such a short period of time. Bringing Jodi back to town makes drama very present. I hope this time Tina and Bette don’t take their eyes off the prize. Keep posting, please.
