Can we get it back – Chapter 19

“How did you feel at that time?” Dr. Garver asks.

“I remember before I left, I got angry so often at her. She gave in all the time. Scared to get into arguments. And that just fueled my anger more. I felt suffocated by her. She was so scared that I would leave her, so she just gave in. About almost everything.” Tina says and looks down on her hands in her lap.

“She suffocated you. How?” Dr. Garver asks.

“I really don’t know. Because that is also the reason, I left the last time. I want to get to the bottom of why I have those feelings. Why I feel like she takes up so much space or suffocate me.” Tina says and looks up at Dr. Garver again. “Why I feel like she doesn’t give me enough space.” She adds. “And I got into a depression because of all of this. I want to feel happy again. I want my life with Bette back. I want us to get back to a happy place.” She says and looks up at Dr. Garver.

“And have you come up with anything?” Dr. Garver asks softly.

“No, and that is why I’m here. What I am hundred percent certain about is that I love her. She is the love of my life. And I want to be with her forever. So, I need to fix me.” Tina says and looks at Dr. Garver.

“Do you have any situations that you felt suffocated as you said. That you can share with me?” Dr. Garver asks as she writes something down on her notepad.

“The feeling comes sneaking in. Bette has a grand presence. She does, but that is how she is. But she is also loving, attentive, caring and a lot more.” Tina replies. “I’ve told her several times, when we’ve argued about this that she took up too much space and that I always had to give in, her stuff mattered more. Her work was more important. She knew more than the rest of us and so on.” Tina says.

“And was it like that?” Dr. Garver asks.

“Apparently I felt like it was. But she never asked me to give her that space. She never demanded it.” Tina says and again looks down in her lap. “And looking back, I’ve started thinking that maybe I pushed her into that or that I told her that so I could feel better somehow. From what? I don’t know.” She says and wipes a few tears away.

“And that happened every time? You just assumed?” Dr. Garver asks carefully.

“I’m trying to figure out what makes me feel like that. What makes me resent her so much… in a way. But I don’t resent her either. But that is the feeling I get.” Tina says. “But what triggers it?” She asks looking at Dr. Garver.

“Well, that is what we will work towards together to figure out. Our time is up for this session.” She says and put her notepad down on the table in front of her. “Are you okay with bringing Bette in for some of the sessions later on? Not now, but open to it later down the line?” Dr. Garver asks.

“Ah sure.” Tina says and stands up slowly. “She also told me that if she was needed here, she would be here.” Tina adds.

“Okay, good to know. I assume you want more sessions?” Dr. Garver asks with a smile.

“Yea, I need many.” Tina chuckles.

“Well, get your next appointment from Laura at the reception. And I’ll see you next time.” Dr. Garver says with a smile.

    “Thank you.” Tina says.

She walks out to the reception and schedule her next appointment for the next week. Then she continues toward the market to buy some food she promised Bette she would get. Half an hour later she parks the car in the driveway. She stays in the car for a moment. Taking a deep breath before grabbing the groceries and walking inside. She finds Bette asleep on the couch like she told Bette.

    1. Tina has tried to state the problem to the therapist…..she is assuming traits in Bette that are not apparent in her behavior. Bette always gives in in fear that she will lose her. That is not the dominating personality, or my priorities are more important that everyone elses or I’m smarter than anyone else or known more than anyone else. So where does this come from? Perhaps we will find out in the near future.

Thanks for this chapter. Love to see more.

    2. I really want to know why Tina feels that way. Yes Bette has a strong personality but did gave Tina the space she needed, especially after they reunited the last time.

It is time that Tina get to the roots of her problems and feelings, otherwise she will always blame or resent Bette for it. She made the first step but has a long way to go.

      Thanks for the update!

    3. My fear is that Tina is doing this because Bette is sick. It seems pretty convenient. Reminds me of when Bette’s father died and Tina came back. I hope she truly does want to be with Bette for the right reasons.
