    Chapter 12

The next afternoon, Bette is at home and makes her way to the front entrance when she hears the doorbell. She opens the door to Kit, and they both stand still looking at one another. Kit raises her hands.

(Kit) We don’t need to talk, and you don’t need to let me in. It’s just that I’m home now, and I wanted to see with my own eyes that you’re alright

Bette remains in position in the doorway, looking back at her.

    (Kit) Are you?

    Bette nods.

    (Bette) I’m alright

Kit nods and Bette looks at her for another moment before taking a step back and nodding towards the hallway.

(Bette) You can come in Kit

They make their way through to the kitchen together, and Bette points towards the stovetop.

(Bette) I was just making a coffee, would you like one?

Kit nods as she sits down at the bench.

    (Kit) Thanks

Bette fetches the coffee from the stovetop and places two mugs on the bench.

(Kit) So, how’s the memory side of things? Any change?

Bette shakes her head as she pours their coffees.

(Kit) Nothing? No bits and pieces?

Bette shakes her head again, sliding a mug over to Kit.

    (Bette) Nothing

(Kit) Are they worried at all about that?

    (Bette) Not yet

Bette takes a seat opposite her.

(Bette) The time it’s taking is still within a normal range apparently. Once we go beyond that, I guess they’ll become more concerned

Kit frowns and nods. They fall into silence for a while, both sipping on their coffees. Bette looks to her.

(Bette) Tell me about your tour

Kit smiles and raises her eyebrows.

    (Kit) It was good

    Bette smiles.

    (Bette) Yeah?

    Kit gives a small laugh.

(Kit) Yeah. I’ve been doing more and more performing recently, but this was as the support act for a band that are really on the brink. I haven’t played in front of crowds like that for years

    (Bette smiles) Congratulations

    Kit smiles at her.

    (Kit) Thank you

Bette has a sip of coffee and then looks back to her.

(Bette) Is it hard for you, being in that environment?

    Kit raises an eyebrow.

    (Kit) Tempting you mean?

    Bette shrugs.

    (Bette) I guess I do

    1. Tina is running scared, I hope she ends her engagement because it is the right thing to do. I would not want to marry someone who is in love with someone else. I also hope once Bette regains her memory, she remembers the time she spent with Tina. Will be interesting to read which one finally admits to the other they are in love and want them back. Is Bette’s reason because she thinks Tina would be better off with someone else? Looking forward to the next chapter. Love your story

    2. Wow! The plot thickens. Damn you Alice but thank you Alice. They had enough cheating in their past, they have to get together again while clearly being single.
Kit’s take on the situation is very sweet. Getting to know her sister at an age that she previously missed.
Bette seems to be right about Julia. I guess Bette pretended to be with her only to come with a plus one to Tina’s engagement party. I do hope that Angie will be able to shed some more light on Bette’s behaviour towards Tina.
It’s going to be even more complicated now that Tina goes to Toronto. Maybe it’s time for some heartfelt letters from Bette.
Waiting for the next part will be tough! I’m so looking forward to it :)

    3. Well, I must say that I cannot figure Bette out. What was her thinking not to have a discussion when Tina ask if there was a chance for her and Bette before accepting marriage. Then again, if Tina was going to give Bette another opportunity to be in her life, why accept a marriage proposal with Sarah? Does this not indicate that Tina is not ready for that relationship either? That to me makes not sense either. Tina moving forward with Sarah because when she has feelings for Bette will only lead to heartbreak for both Tina and for Sarah. If I were advising Tina, I would tell her to go do some self evaluation and meditation and not to do anything until Bette has recovered her memory…. nothing with Bette and nothing with Sarah. Bette could regain her memory and conclude that her Tina avoidance was nothing but a façade’. Tina needs to make her choice based on her own happiness and if that means Bette…. it means Bette. But it obviously does not mean Sarah… for she is not “in love” with Sarah.

      Thanks for the chapter…

    4. Yessssssssssssss this episode was EVERYTHING and MORE!!!!! That argument scene was theee best. I love how Bette was challenging her and fighting. She was trying but I understand Tina doesn’t want to get hurt again. I love this story sooo much. I’m always anticipating and counting like ok I think I’m going to see this story title pop up today. Thank you ! I’m ready and patiently waiting for the next chapter.
