The next afternoon, Bette is at home and makes her way to the front entrance when she hears the doorbell. She opens the door to Kit, and they both stand still looking at one another. Kit raises her hands.
(Kit) We don’t need to talk, and you don’t need to let me in. It’s just that I’m home now, and I wanted to see with my own eyes that you’re alright
Bette remains in position in the doorway, looking back at her.
(Kit) Are you?
(Bette) I’m alright
Kit nods and Bette looks at her for another moment before taking a step back and nodding towards the hallway.
(Bette) You can come in Kit
They make their way through to the kitchen together, and Bette points towards the stovetop.
(Bette) I was just making a coffee, would you like one?
Kit nods as she sits down at the bench.
Bette fetches the coffee from the stovetop and places two mugs on the bench.
(Kit) So, how’s the memory side of things? Any change?
Bette shakes her head as she pours their coffees.
(Kit) Nothing? No bits and pieces?
Bette shakes her head again, sliding a mug over to Kit.
(Kit) Are they worried at all about that?
(Bette) Not yet
Bette takes a seat opposite her.
(Bette) The time it’s taking is still within a normal range apparently. Once we go beyond that, I guess they’ll become more concerned
Kit frowns and nods. They fall into silence for a while, both sipping on their coffees. Bette looks to her.
(Bette) Tell me about your tour
Kit smiles and raises her eyebrows.
(Kit) It was good
Kit gives a small laugh.
(Kit) Yeah. I’ve been doing more and more performing recently, but this was as the support act for a band that are really on the brink. I haven’t played in front of crowds like that for years
(Bette smiles) Congratulations
Kit smiles at her.
(Kit) Thank you
Bette has a sip of coffee and then looks back to her.
(Bette) Is it hard for you, being in that environment?
Kit raises an eyebrow.
(Kit) Tempting you mean?
(Bette) I guess I do
