    Chapter 12

Kit smiles and nods, looking to her coffee.

(Kit) It’ll always be there Bette. But I have confidence in myself these days. And confidence that I’d know when to walk away if I needed to

Bette nods, and they fall into silence again. Bette examines her for a moment before speaking.

    (Bette) You do seem different

Kit raises her eyebrows and nods.

    (Kit) I am, very different

Bette nods, looking to her coffee.

(Bette) It must be frustrating for you, me being stuck now in a time when things were, well, the way that they were

    Bette looks up at her.

(Bette) All that work you must have put into fixing this with me has been undone, just like that

Kit looks downwards for a moment, and then looks over at her.

(Kit) Actually, I think it’s kind of wonderful

    Bette looks at her curiously.

(Bette) You’re going to have to explain that to me

    Kit smiles.

(Kit) You, right now, you’re from the years I missed Bette. I’ve never spent time with this version of you. I was so lost in my own stuff

She shakes her head and then shrugs.

(Kit) I don’t even know you. This you. Sitting here with you right now feels like getting something back that I never thought I could. Something impossible

Bette examines her for a moment, and Kit smiles at her.

(Kit) Does that make any sort of sense?

(Bette nods) Yes, I think it does

Kit smiles as she pours them both a water from a pitcher on the bench.

(Kit) Anyway, last time we spoke you were hell bent on getting your wife back. How’s that going for you?

Bette smiles and looks to her with her head leaned to one side.

(Bette) Didn’t you tell me not to do that?

(Kit) Since when do you listen to me baby girl? You still don’t, so there’s no chance back then

They smile at each other, and Bette shrugs.

(Bette) We’ve spent a lot of time together

(Kit) Mmmm, and how’s that been?

    (Bette) It’s been… great

    Bette smiles.

    (Bette) Wonderful actually

Kit nods and has a sip of water.

(Kit) And no one’s popped up and put a dampener on that for you?

    1. Tina is running scared, I hope she ends her engagement because it is the right thing to do. I would not want to marry someone who is in love with someone else. I also hope once Bette regains her memory, she remembers the time she spent with Tina. Will be interesting to read which one finally admits to the other they are in love and want them back. Is Bette’s reason because she thinks Tina would be better off with someone else? Looking forward to the next chapter. Love your story

    2. Wow! The plot thickens. Damn you Alice but thank you Alice. They had enough cheating in their past, they have to get together again while clearly being single.
Kit’s take on the situation is very sweet. Getting to know her sister at an age that she previously missed.
Bette seems to be right about Julia. I guess Bette pretended to be with her only to come with a plus one to Tina’s engagement party. I do hope that Angie will be able to shed some more light on Bette’s behaviour towards Tina.
It’s going to be even more complicated now that Tina goes to Toronto. Maybe it’s time for some heartfelt letters from Bette.
Waiting for the next part will be tough! I’m so looking forward to it :)

    3. Wow! Why did Bette just walk away? Why did she not tell Tina she was still in love with her? Tinas basically asked her permission to get married and Bette said nothing? The plot thickens! PPS

    4. Well, I must say that I cannot figure Bette out. What was her thinking not to have a discussion when Tina ask if there was a chance for her and Bette before accepting marriage. Then again, if Tina was going to give Bette another opportunity to be in her life, why accept a marriage proposal with Sarah? Does this not indicate that Tina is not ready for that relationship either? That to me makes not sense either. Tina moving forward with Sarah because when she has feelings for Bette will only lead to heartbreak for both Tina and for Sarah. If I were advising Tina, I would tell her to go do some self evaluation and meditation and not to do anything until Bette has recovered her memory…. nothing with Bette and nothing with Sarah. Bette could regain her memory and conclude that her Tina avoidance was nothing but a façade’. Tina needs to make her choice based on her own happiness and if that means Bette…. it means Bette. But it obviously does not mean Sarah… for she is not “in love” with Sarah.

      Thanks for the chapter…

    5. Yessssssssssssss this episode was EVERYTHING and MORE!!!!! That argument scene was theee best. I love how Bette was challenging her and fighting. She was trying but I understand Tina doesn’t want to get hurt again. I love this story sooo much. I’m always anticipating and counting like ok I think I’m going to see this story title pop up today. Thank you ! I’m ready and patiently waiting for the next chapter.
