Chapter 14
Tina laughs and shakes her head.
(Tina) Angie
Angie looks at her for a moment and then shrugs.
(Angelica) OK, sorry, I will
Tina smiles at her as she has a sip of her water.
(Angelica) Alice says you act like that because you’re still in love with each other
Tina raises her eyebrows and looks over at her.
(Tina) Alice told you that?
(Angelica) No, she told Shane
Tina looks at her for a moment.
(Tina ) Do you do a lot of listening in?
Angelica shrugs and Tina smiles at her.
(Tina) Well come on then, what else can you tell me?
Angelica again glances at her out of the corner of her eye.
(Angelica) You keep your wedding ring in your bedside table
Tina slaps her lightly on the arm.
(Tina) Oooh, I know that one, I found that too!
Angelica raises her eyebrows and gives a small laugh. Tina stops and looks at her.
(Tina frowns) How would I usually react to that?
(Angelica) You’d tell me off for looking through your things
(Tina nods) Right, yeah
She gives Angelica a stern look.
(Tina) Don’t do that
Angelica laughs and Tina smiles as she watches her for another moment.
(Tina) Anything else?
Angelica looks down and thinks before raising her eyes to Tina’s.
(Angelica) You cry a lot
Tina stops and looks at her as she takes this in.
(Angelica) You try and hide it from me, but I can tell
Later, they sit on the couch watching a movie together and there is a knock at the door. Tina goes to answer it and smiles when she sees Bette standing there.
(Tina) Hi
(Bette smiles) Hi
Tina steps back and lets Bette past, closing the door behind her.
(Bette) How is everything? Is she OK?
(Tina nods) Yes, she’s OK, we’ve had a lovely day
She looks down the hallway to where Angelica is still sitting on the couch, smiling when she notices Angelica’s head angled to one side as she strains to hear their conversation.
Tina looks back to Bette, and speaks quietly.
(Tina) I misjudged it, thinking it was best to give her some space and have Kit there. She thought I was avoiding her
Bette nods and looks to Angelica.
(Bette) Well I’m glad she came then
Bette looks back to Tina and they smile at each other.
(Bette) And you had a good talk?
(Tina smiles) We did
Bette and Tina stand together in the lounge waiting on Angelica as she gathers her things together. Bette looks over at the teapot and cups set out on the coffee table.
(Bette) Was she drinking tea?
Tina follows her gaze and then looks back at her.
(Tina) Yes
Bette smiles at her.
(Tina) I’m guessing she doesn’t usually do that?
(Bette smiles) Not usually, no
Angelica arrives and she and Bette say their goodbyes to Tina and set off for Bette’s house.
As they pull up at a set of traffic lights Bette turns to her.
(Bette) So it was nice spending time together?
Angelica nods and smiles.
(Angelica) Yeah it was. She’s a bit different to Mom, sort of sillier
Bette smiles.
(Angelica) But she’s kind of just the same too, once you get past the whole stuck in the past thing
Bette smiles and Angelica looks back at her.
(Angelica) I like being around her
Angelica focuses back on her phone and sighs.
(Angelica) I really just want her back properly. But it’s nice to pretend for a while, you know?
Angelica glances at Bette before returning to her phone, and Bette continues watching her.

Such a brilliant concept – conversations between the past, present, and future. Sprinkled with a little laughter and tears.

It’s nice to pretend sometimes, i agree with Angie.
Glad Angie came to see Tina and them talking a bit about the past and future.
I am still so curious what happened between Bette & Tina that they acted so hostile to each other and why was Tina crying a lot?
Love this story!

I think this is a good first step for Angie and Tina. It has to be really awkward for Angie to be dealing with a parent whom you have lived with and known all of your life and has no memory of anything about you and your life together. Nor does she have any memory of anything else that has occurred for the last 15 years. How to you communicate with someone like that whom you love dearly and and you know she loves you? And as for Tina, she is in that place of being drawn to Angie and want to know her and yet she does not want to make the situation more stressful for Angie or for Bette. Tina uses her common sense and instincts to make her way through this situation yet knowing there are land mines of unknown magnitude everywhere. And Bette and Tina are dealing with a 12 year old child. And both want only the best for Angie… and everyone is in the dark as to what that is. The one thing that is true about Bette universally in every story told: Bette will never deny Angie and Tina time together. I also think that Angie’s comment that neither of her mothers would allow Angie to diminish the character of the other parent with demeaning comments or discussions even though they were no longer a couple. That was huge… not all divorced parents conduct themselves in that manner..
Thanks for the chapter…
