Tina smiles.

(Tina) Well, I think I can offer some insight here, and it definitely means something

Tina looks to her wine.

(Tina) She also cries a lot

Bette takes a breath and looks over at her.

(Bette) Who told you that?

Tina meets her eyes and looks at her for a moment.

(Tina) Angie

They both take a breath as they hold each other’s gaze.

(Tina) She’s quite the little detective. I assume you know that

(Bette) You mean the eavesdropping? And the snooping?

Tina smiles.

(Tina) Yes

(Bette smiles) Yes, I know. She’s always been very perceptive as well, even when she was tiny

They both have a sip of wine.

(Tina) Alice said that I’ve been acting differently recently, that something’s shifted for me, to do with you. She thought it was linked to my being sad

They look at each other for a moment.

(Tina) I’m telling you baby, there’s something there

Bette sighs and breaks eye contact, staring straight ahead for a while. She looks back to Tina.

(Bette) When I really think about it, I think you have been different towards me recently. I’ve been carrying on as usual, but it’s felt more one sided than it usually does

She pauses and has a sip of wine.

(Bette) That last day I saw you, you came to the door when you dropped off Angie, sort of unnecessarily. And it seemed, I don’t know, different. Like maybe the anger had shifted to something else

(Tina) Shifted to what?

(Bette) I don’t know exactly. Just something different

Tina sighs.

(Tina) I think you two have a lot to talk about

Bette sighs and has a sip of wine.

(Tina) I get that it’s all awful, what you’ve told me, all of what you put each other through

Tina shakes her head and sighs.

(Tina) But all that anger. That that’s remained after all this time

She looks to Bette.

(Tina) If you have any chance of moving past this you need to work out why that is and talk about it with each other

They sit in silence for a while. Bette eventually turns back to her.

(Bette) We don’t even know if you’ll remember any of this once you’re back. Any of these conversations, or this time we’ve spent together

(Tina frowns) That’s a big factor do you think?

(Bette nods) Yes, I think if you remember then maybe we have some chance. If not, then I think it’s a lost cause

Tina reaches out and takes her hand. She looks down for a moment to their hands tightly held together, before raising her eyes to Bette’s.

(Tina) You can do this, either way

Bette takes a breath and Tina squeezes her hand as she holds her gaze.

(Tina) Don’t give up on us baby, you have to try
