    (Tina) Hi Bette turns abruptly and looks at her. (Bette) Hi Bette glances around the room before looking back at her.     (Tina) Hi

    Bette turns abruptly and looks at her.

    (Bette) Hi

    Bette glances around the room before looking back at her.

    (Bette) I wasn’t sure whether to expect you

    (Tina) I wasn’t sure whether I should come. I’ve been trying to call you, as I’m sure you know

    (Bette) Sorry, it’s been busy leading up to tonight

    Tina looks at her, searching her face.

    (Bette) Is Andrew here with you?

    (Tina) No, he’s not

    Bette glances around the room, looking for an avenue to escape from the conversation.

    (Tina) Is there somewhere we can talk? Your office?

    Bette looks back at her, and speaks coldly.

    (Bette) I’m sorry but it’s not a good time. I don’t think there’s anything left to say anyway

    Tina takes a breath and looks at her with hurt in her eyes.

    (Tina) Please?

    Bette also takes a deep breath and looks back at her.

    (Bette) Tina, Andrew already told me about the wedding. We don’t need to talk about it. I probably won’t go so far as to say congratulations, but I wish you well. And now I really must go

    Bette turns and walks away, leaving Tina standing still and watching her move away.

     

    Later, the crowd stands around watching a series of speeches from those involved in the night. Bette speaks first and then returns to the crowd, standing to the side and watching the remaining speakers.

    Tina stands towards the back before taking a large gulp of her wine and placing the empty glass on a tray held by a passing waiter. She makes her way through the crowd and positions herself directly alongside Bette.

    They stand next to each other for a while before Bette glances in her direction and notices her, looking at her in surprise. Tina stares directly ahead as she talks.

    (Tina) We haven’t married. I’m sorry you thought that, I didn’t know that he’d mentioned it to you. It explains how you addressed tonight’s invitation, I guess

    Bette continues looking at her profile as she takes in Tina’s words.

    (Tina) It’s not really my preference to discuss this like this, but you haven’t left me a whole lot of choice

    Tina looks over at her and they lock eyes, staring at one another intently for a long moment. Tina takes a deep breath and breaks the silence.

    1. Just saw this post! I am working from home and took a break after a long zoom. Thank you, thank you for making my day. I read yesterday’s post and decided Andrew figured out the Tina Bette connection. Why else would he come to Bette’s office, tell Bette of their eloping and then ask for another invitation. He was going to rub it in Bette’s face!!! I believed this was going to get really ugly! But today… today’s post changed my mood for the day! Looking forward to the next post ….sorry it is last for this story!

    3. Well, I must say that I am breathing again…. But Tina is a risk taker… but she always calculates the risk so that she does not get completely destroyed in taking the leap. Hopefully in this choice, she actually really does get it all: the partner who will allow her to be who she is and the one who challenges her and supports her as well… this is who Bette was attracted to and this is who she will be very comfortable living with… no matter where they end up.

      Great story….. let’s see how you wrap it up….
