Chapter 19 – The Wilkins and the Prestons

Mary: And on Thursday night, Margaret and I worked on shelling lima beans. And on Friday after we did our meetings, we worked on peaches. Margaret and Jeanette helped with those. You know, it’s a lot of work dealing with fresh produce.

Tina: We will be having some of the strawberries for dessert.

Joe: Regular survivalist are you, Tina. This meal is delicious. A lot of different tastes and textures and I love this corn bread. It is slightly sweet.

Tina: Yes, I needed something with a little sweetness in the meal. So, we have the sweet corn and the corn bread. But this meal has more fiber than if we were to have potatoes or rice.

Mary: So, what can we expect for the coming week?

Bette: Tina’s sculpture should be arriving Tuesday or Wednesday. Jim will have a crew come over and set it exactly where Tina wants it. That should be fun.

Barbara: What kind of sculpture are you getting?

Tina:  I am getting a much larger version of that aluminum ribbon sculpture over there. It was an anniversary gift from Bette. I can’t wait to see it. I’ll have to take a few hours off to get it set in the right place. I want to be able to see it from the house and particularly from our deck.

Joe:  I noticed that Juliet deck. Is that off the master bedroom?

Bette:  Yes, It’s our private oasis. I love spending time out there.

Barbara: That’s a nice to have. Maybe we will have something like that someday.

Joe:  Yes, someday, but we have a couple of boys to educate first.

They continued their night. Tina served the strawberry short cake with a dollop of whipped cream. Bette told her story about the whipping cream and her drowned chocolate cake and everyone howled. After dinner, the Joey and John David rounded up their things, loaded their car and went home. Daniel said goodbye and the said good night to his moms and went off to bed. He had been swimming for about two hours and he was tired. And after the meal, he just wanted to go to his room and relax.

Bette, Tina, Margaret and Mary cleaned up the kitchen and then went to the family room and enjoyed some coffee.
