Chapter 19 – The Wilkins and the Prestons
Bette: Okay, lets’ get started.
They worked with each other for the rest of the morning. Mary and Margaret came in and headed for a shower after their gardening. They had plans for the afternoon, so they would not be in for lunch.
Bette: Tina, is it just me or are these two really getting to be close friends?
Tina: No, they really are getting to be joined at the hip. On the weekends, they are almost constantly together. I’m really surprised. But I guess that is a good thing. You know we encouraged them to do their own thing. And I guess they heard us.
Bette: Well, it’s now time for me to start worrying.
Tina: About?
Bette: What happens to Mary when Margaret decides it’s time to move on with her life. Move back to her home or get a condominium or something?
Tina: Well, they could still be friends. Surely that is something they have thought about.
Bette: Well, maybe. I just do not want to have a broken-hearted Mom around next fall after Scotland.
Tina: Let’s see what happens. They may decide to move on together. You never know. But whatever they decide, that is up to them. We just need to be supportive of their decisions.
Bette: You’re right. They are both grown women and they can make their own decisions.
Tina talked to Lisa and she agreed that her children would eat salmon, rice, broccoli perhaps with a little cheese sauce and apple sauce. She doubted they would eat cole slaw but she wanted them both served some anyway. The fruit salad was a perfect dessert for the two.
Bette and Tina worked on the fruit salad and would not combine the ingredients until just before dinner.
Bette discussed with Tina once more the plan to give James 100 percent of Porter Gallery and to terminate her own compensation at the end of the year. Paris would keep a base salary until the end of May but would forego all commissions on sales as of January 1st. This would increase the cash flow for the gallery so James could begin to put in the changes he wanted to make and to hire someone to replace Paris as curator. Paris would cease employment on May 31st. Hopefully, James would be back from his parental leave by that point.
