Chapter 19 – The Wilkins and the Prestons
Bette and Tina finished up the chopping up of the fruit and preparing the rice. They had prepared the broccoli for cooking and of course the slaw was ready. They discussed whether to eat on the lanai or in the breakfast room. They choose the lanai as it was comfortable temperature. And since Lisa was pregnant, she would enjoy the coolness that comes with the evenings. Bette offered to turn on the heating units if it became uncomfortable. Tina liked that idea.
They made themselves a large salad with chicken strips and cheese toast. They cleaned up the kitchen and went upstairs and stripped the bed and put clean sheets on. They then went and checked the bedroom off the kitchen and the cabana to be sure that housekeeping had prepare the rooms for guest. They pulled down the Murphy bed and made up the bed and then returned it to the wall unit. The bath was full of towels and fragrant soaps. The dorm refrigerator had water, juices, and soft drinks. There were a few snacks in the cabinets such as granola bars, chips and candy incase Lisa had some need for a snack. Everything appeared to be ready for their guest.
Bette and Tina went to take a nap. They would get up at 2:30 and perhaps prepare some appetizer type snacks. But dinner would be served early. Bette assumed that James and Lisa would enjoy the pool with Lillabette and Jason. But she would volunteer if they preferred not to. She had experience with entertaining children in the pool.
James and Lisa and the children arrive shortly after 3:00. Tina showed them to the cabana so they could get settled. James had decided that he would play with the kids in the pool while Lisa watched from the side lines.
Lisa: This place is wonderful. And I love the little guest house.
Tina: Well, the Murphy bed is ready for the kids. Are they going to be okay sharing a bed?
Lisa: Oh, yes, they will be fine. And they are going to be so fascinated that the bed folds up into the wall, they are going to be beside themselves.
Tina: Make sure that once you two retire for the evening that you use the safety lock at the top of the door. We wouldn’t want them to take it upon themselves to go for a swim without supervision.
