Chapter 19 – The Wilkins and the Prestons

Joe: That sounds good. But I don’t think we have the funds to pay for a car service to bring the boys home. Even if we shared the car service, it not exactly in my budget at the moment.

Bette: I will foot the bill for the car service in total. I am doing this for Margaret mostly. And it would cost me the same amount to provide a car just for Daniel as it does for Daniel and John David. Picking up Joey, might be a little extra, but I’m more than willing to provide for that as well. That way Barbara can be home a little earlier and do the things she would rather be doing than waiting for the appointed time to take Joey home. We would keep the morning schedule the same. Margaret would take Daniel and John David to school and they would have breakfast there.

Tina came out with the tray of snacks and offered them to the Wilkins. They took a few and then looked at each other and then began to respond.

Joe: So, you are offering to pay for a car and driver to pick up the boys in the afternoon every day, except for Fridays?  And that’s because they usually come home immediately after school. That is very generous of you Bette. I have no objections. What do you think Barb?

Barb: It sounds wonderful to me. It means I can have time to cook dinner every evening except when I have detention duty or meetings. Having a way home for Joey would be wonderful. And since it really won’t impact our budget, well how can we lose?

Tina: Oh, you are discussing getting a car and driver?

Bette: What do you think if we start this on the Monday after Thanksgiving? I’ll get a reputable firm which will have properly licensed, insured and background checked folks. If I hire a firm, then they will have substitute drivers in the event of illness or someone being absent.

Barb: I think that would be great. That will give us a couple of weeks to get the boys upcoming schedules confirmed. Thank you, Bette and Tina. This is a very generous thing for you to do.

Tina: Barbara, if you or Joe ever need us to help out with getting Joey to school or home, you just give us a call. One of us will be able to help you out. Now that Mary is here, we now have an additional driver at least for emergency purposes.
