    Chapter 2

“Ah, ok then. So why movies?”

“My great aunt on my dad’s side. She used to be a big-time hairstylist to the stars. Every time she used to visit, we’d sit and watch all the old Hollywood greats. It became my escape from this place”

“Your escape?” she looked at me, concern evident on her face.

“This town isn’t an easy place to live when you know you don’t fit in.”  There was an understanding silence in the car following my remark.

“Anyway, my great aunt died a couple of years back she’d left me all this old movie memorabilia in her will, with a note that said follow your passions…”

“And your definitely passionate about films! Most of your essay on the first day was about your favourite film!” she said laughing “Passion leapt off the page!”

    “Oh, don’t tell me.”

    “What?”

“You’re an English teacher, your gonna say that books are better, blah, blah, blah.”

“Actually no, I mean, if I had a personal choice between movie or book, it would be a book. But I don’t think it’s true for everyone.”

    “Oh.”

“What I was going to say, was, your essay was so detailed I felt like I actually watched the movie!”

She said this just as we were approaching a stop light. Hitting the brakes a little too hard. I swung round to look at her in shock.

    “Felt like you’d watched it.”

    “Yes.”

“You mean that you haven’t actually watched it?”

She shifted nervously at my question.

    “Umm, not exactly, no.”

Not believing what I’d just heard I sat there in shock.

    “Tina, are you ok?”

“But how?” “I mean, aren’t you like 30?”

This time it was her turn to be shocked…

    “Are you saying I’m old?”

Realising that I might have just insulted her I backtracked quickly.

“What no, never” “I mean, you don’t even look 30” “I mean, even if you were old, nobody would know, I mean, YOU’RE HOT!” Oh god, please someone shut me up!

She was laughing. I’d just unintentionally called her old, twice, and then yelled in her face that she’s hot and she’s laughing. I’ve broken her…

    “Are you ok?”

Finally getting her laughing under control she replied…

“Yes, I’m ok. You’re just not what I expected on my ride to work this morning!” at this she started giggling again.

    1. They both are in so much trouble.
Teacher-student relations often end badly and according to the prologue, this will be the case. That said, there are exceptions, Macron and his Brigitte in France for example !

Interesting story, can’t wait to read more soon.

    2. I’m enjoying this interesting story. Looking forward to see the developments in Bette & Tina’s relationship.

Highlights for me – The earring, as a true Tibette fan, I loved that moment when their eyes locked and they were holding hands.

And, yes! – The Shawshank Redemption is one of the best movies and an all-time favorite of mine.
