Bette frowns as she looks at her curiously.

(Bette) Really?

Tina looks at her for a moment and then reaches for her arm.

(Tina) Bette I don’t think you should be standing

Tina guides her back to the bed and Bette sits on the edge, looking up at Tina and studying her for a moment.

(Bette) Do you mean I shouldn’t be standing because I hit my head? Or because of whatever it is you’re about to say to me that has you looking so nervous?

Tina looks back at her for a moment before sitting down next to her on the bed. She goes to take Bette’s hand and then hesitates, and Bette reaches for her and holds her hand tightly. Tina looks to her and they hold each other’s gaze.

(Tina) Bette there’s something I need to tell you, and it’s going to sound very strange to you. It’s going to be a lot to take in

Bette watches her closely as Tina looks away and takes a breath, and then focuses back on Bette.

(Tina) The hit to your head has confused you. It’s made you think that it’s a long time ago. They’re going to do some tests and make sure you’re ok, but they think it’s most likely temporary, and that it will go as you start to feel better

(Bette frowns) I don’t understand. You’re saying it’s not the year I think it is?

Tina nods and talks gently.

(Tina) Yes, that’s what I’m saying

(Bette) Well what year is it then?

Tina takes a breath.

(Tina) It’s 2017

Bette raises her eyebrows.

(Bette) 2017

Tina nods.

(Tina) Yes

(Bette) And this is temporary?

(Tina nods) They believe so. The doctor is going to be in in a minute and will explain all of this to you. They wanted you to hear it first from someone…

Tina looks away and clears her throat. She looks back to Bette.

(Tina) Well, from me

Bette nods and looks ahead, tightening her hold on Tina’s hand. They sit in silence for a long while, Bette continuing to look ahead as she gathers her thoughts, and Tina watching her closely. Bette eventually looks over to her.

(Bette) Well maybe while we wait for them you could fill me in a bit
