Chapter 2 – Philadelphia – Day 1
Tina: That sounds nice. I bet his grandmother is thrilled to have her grandsons for a weekend.
Daniel: And I am thrilled to spend a weekend with my Uncle Sonny and Aunt Kit. I hope that we can go fishing.
Bette: Well, if he can’t maybe we can do some fishing up at the lake near the cabin at Bear Mountain.
Margaret: Wow, that sounds like fun.
Tina: Margaret, you appear to be losing weight. Are you okay?
Margaret: I’m fine dear. It’s that swimming every day that is helping me tone up some. I’m a little more active living in this household than I was living with Mildred. And I seem to be watching what I eat. You guys are certainly interesting housemates.
Bette: Well, we are glad you are here. You are making our lives better as well. And in a couple of weeks, Mary will be here. And she is a big fan of the pool as well.
Daniel asked to be excused. Bette and Tina wanted to say their goodbyes for the weekend since he and Margaret got up early and went to school for breakfast. Bette was planning on leaving work immediately after class in the afternoon and catching the plane in the evening. The graduate assistants were taking the Thursday class and the graduate class had been canceled for the day.
Grace had decided to video Bette’s Wednesday class and put it out on the internet so that the students could have this particular class without coming in. So, she and George showed up at the first class and filmed the class. George was so excited about it that he encouraged Bette to cancel the afternoon class and refer them to the video instead. Bette agreed and therefore was able to leave at 2:00.
Bette and Tina had a car take them to LAX and they were off to Philadelphia. Bette and Tina reviewed the itinerary for the next day and what they knew and did not know about Melvin Porter. Once they were served their dinner on the plane, they snuggled together and slept the rest of the way into Philadelphia.
Tina had made the arrangements for a rental car and accommodations at the Four Seasons Hotel. Bette was raised in Philadelphia and knew the city well. It was early in the morning when they arrived so they immediately went to their room, showered and went to bed for a long nap. Their first appointment was at 10:00 am at the firm of Wescott & Porter, LLC.
