Chapter 2 – The Porch Scene
“Yea she heard you two fucking earlier. Well she didn’t hear you, I’m pretty sure she just heard Tina.”
Bette put her fingers to her forehead and rubbed her temples. “Ok, well that’s another thing to not tell Tina today. The first thing is that we have no alcohol, Alice.”
“Why was I in charge of alcohol? Shane you need to call Tess.”
Shane moaned.
“Call her now. Please!”
Bette looked back towards the door to make sure Tina was out of ear shot. “Just an FYI, Tina’s a bit hormonal so if she finds out you forgot the booze she may hurt you, Al.” Bette enjoyed making Alice squirm. Although she did wonder if what she said may be partly true. Her mind raced with their sexual escapades from the last few days and how insatiable Tina has been. Bette could curb her sexual appetite, but Alice would not be able to tame her rage.
“Shane! Please! I’m so not good with mean Tina.”
Shane was reluctantly dialing. “You owe me.”
Angie appeared at the door. “Mom, Mom wants you.”
Alice made a biting face and growled, “Yea she does!”
Angie gave her earth mother another disgruntled look and shook her head.
“Who wants breakfast?” Alice clapped her hands together following Bette inside.
“Seriously how do you expect me to eat when you say things like that?”
Alice shushed Angie and playfully punched her shoulder. “Such a great day!”
Angie waited at the door for Shane.
“Big day, you ok?”
“Yea, I guess. I heard them doing it in the shower.”
Shane snickered at her niece. “I’m sure that’s not the first time. At least you’re older now and can appreciate that your moms are hot!”
Angie looked at Shane for a long second, admiring her chameleon of an aunt. She knew the familiar way she tilted her head when she tried to make light of an unpleasant situation. And how her eyes changed color depending on her mood. Today they were light and playful, almost fully blue. Her relationship with Shane was much different than her relationship with Alice. There was always a moment of truth flitting between the two of them, and Angie often wondered how Shane could see through her, grasp at a thread, and get her to let it out.
“And beautiful.” Angie said, leaning her head against the door, smiling.
“And beautiful.” Shane nodded and took another deep breath. She was overwhelmingly happy for her little family. “So you’re good?”
“Yea I’m good. I’m really happy they’re back together. Forever.”
“Me too, kiddo. Me too.”
