    Love’s Recovery

“Is Tina ok?” Alice was out of breath as she touched various parts of Angie while Maxine held her and Angie rested her head on Maxine’s shoulder.

“She’ll be fine, but it’ll be awhile. She needs a few stitches in her forehead and a CT scan which will take the longest. We don’t want Angie stuck here for that long given how tired she is.”

    “She’s cleared to go?”

“Yes, she was in her car seat. Which reminds me you’ll need to get the car seat out of my car which Maxine dropped off in the valet.”

“Why aren’t you taking her home?” Alice asked Maxine.

“Because I know Bette wanted that boundary and I’m respecting that,” Maxine said.

    “A mom…who respects boundaries…who knew that existed?”

Maxine laughed as Angelica went into Alice’s arms and started to fall back asleep.

“Why don’t I help you get that car seat into your car Alice and Bette, you can go back and be with Tina while we settle up here.”

Bette kissed Angie’s head and then watched as Alice and Maxine exited the ER doors allowing her focus to be on Tina. She made her way back to Tina’s room just as they were finishing the stitches.

“Is Angie ok?” Tina asked as they cleaned up the area on her forehead and put a bandage on it.

“Yes, Maxine already called Alice, so she was going to help her get the car seat into Alice’s car and I assume go back with Alice.”

“How did your lunch go with her?”

“Not as bad as dinner at her house,” Bette admitted, “but we didn’t get very far before the hospital called me and she drove me here because I was a mess.”

“Sorry,” Tina held Bette’s hand in her lap. “I really am a good driver.”

    Bette chuckled.

“I know you think that all drivers that get in accidents say that, and you hardly ever even let me drive when it’s the two of us, but he really did come out of nowhere and hit us. While we waited for the ambulance since I needed stitches, the cop handed me the report number for insurance.”

    1. At last, Bette is allowing herself to relax with Maxine and just go with the flow. Too bad it takes a family emergency to get to accept the good will of others. She still needs to hear Maxine’s story. This was the first time that anyone had said Melvin had been abusive. I’m not sure Bette understands the extent of Melvin’s abuse. And once she hears it, will she accept that Melvin was not the man she thought he was?

I love the fact that Maxine called Alice when she knew Kit was not available. Maxine seems to be familiar with what goes on in an emergency room. And she seems to know how to clam Bette down. Good thing Tina is not hurt very bad.

Good chapter….great story line for this book. I hooked into this story and am anxiously waiting for the next chapter….

    2. Great story Gumby!!!

Glad that Tina isn’t that bad injured and that Angelica wasn’t hurt at all.

Good to see Bette a little bit more relaxed with Maxine and that Maxine seems to respect the boundaries Bette set.

Looking forward to the next chapter!

    3. So happy to be back in this story!

Loving the way Bette is opening up to listen to Maxine.
I think she will need a lot of support when she finds out the extent of Melvin’s abuse.

Thanks for posting, more please, can’t get enough of this story
