      “She can’t stay here for that Bette, you need to get her home.”   “I’m not leaving you,” Bette said emphatically. “Maxine brought me here, she can sit with her while we get you taken care of.”   “Have Maxine take her to Kit. She can’t stay in this hospital tired and lord knows

     

    “She can’t stay here for that Bette, you need to get her home.”

     

    “I’m not leaving you,” Bette said emphatically. “Maxine brought me here, she can sit with her while we get you taken care of.”

     

    “Have Maxine take her to Kit. She can’t stay in this hospital tired and lord knows what kind of germs are around here.”

     

    “Then we have no car,” Bette said thinking through the possibilities. “Let me go talk to her since she drove me here in my car and see if we can’t get her a ride home. I will be right outside and I will be right back.”

     

    Tina smiled as Bette leaned down and kissed the top of her head and left with Angelica briefly. She round her way through the halls, following the signs to the ER waiting room, finally emerging to see Maxine sitting down thumbing through a magazine waiting for information. She caught Bette’s eyes as she made her way to Maxine with Angelica in her arms.

     

    “Maxie!!” Angelica squirmed out of Bette’s arms and jumped into Maxine’s, wrapping her arms around Maxine’s neck as Maxine twirled her around. “I missed you!”

     

    “I missed you too Princess,” Maxine turned to face Bette still holding onto Angie. “How’s Tina?”

     

    “She’ll be fine, she has to get some stitches on her forehead that will be covered by her hairline but they want to do a CT scan since she hit her head pretty hard and make sure she doesn’t have a concussion.”

     

    “How long will that take?”

     

    “A while,” Bette took a deep breath. “I need to get Kit to come get Angelica…”

     

    “I already called Alice since I had her number and I know Kit was meeting with her agent about someone wanting to sing a song with her on an upcoming album of theirs. Alice is on her way.”

     

    “Thank you,” Bette said carefully. “You really didn’t have to do that but it seems like the best solution.”

     

    “I know you don’t want me to be involved with Tina or Angie so I assumed that Alice was a good second choice to Kit.”

     

    “She is,” Bette turned toward the entrance when she heard Alice’s voice asking where to go.

    1. At last, Bette is allowing herself to relax with Maxine and just go with the flow. Too bad it takes a family emergency to get to accept the good will of others. She still needs to hear Maxine’s story. This was the first time that anyone had said Melvin had been abusive. I’m not sure Bette understands the extent of Melvin’s abuse. And once she hears it, will she accept that Melvin was not the man she thought he was?

      I love the fact that Maxine called Alice when she knew Kit was not available. Maxine seems to be familiar with what goes on in an emergency room. And she seems to know how to clam Bette down. Good thing Tina is not hurt very bad.

      Good chapter….great story line for this book. I hooked into this story and am anxiously waiting for the next chapter….

      Glad that Tina isn’t that bad injured and that Angelica wasn’t hurt at all.

      Good to see Bette a little bit more relaxed with Maxine and that Maxine seems to respect the boundaries Bette set.

      Looking forward to the next chapter!

      Loving the way Bette is opening up to listen to Maxine.
      I think she will need a lot of support when she finds out the extent of Melvin’s abuse.
