Chapter 29 – The Leaving the Nest Party

Shane: Wow, I hadn’t thought about that. Maybe we should really encourage them to get their bachelor’s degree.
Mary: Shane, if financing school for your boys is a problem, I may can help you out with a low interest loan.
Bobbie: I think we have enough resources for the boys to get their education. We are not exactly paupers. Shane is just so conservative with her money; you would think that we were have trouble making ends meet. We have lived rather frugally and have put away some significant amounts for our retirement and to finance the boy’s college. It’s just that they both are not ready to leave home just yet and so they choose to go to community college. But Shay will complete his second year in May, so we need to get him tuned in to transfer to the right university.
Bette: You need to start on that now. You need to get an acceptance by spring so you can prepare for him to move out.
Tina: And that takes a lot more work than you would think depending where they are going to go to school.
Bette: And do you know what the secret to a good plan is?
Everyone in the room shouted: LISTS.
Tina laughing: Those lists have saved our lives and help us stay on track and complete the job. You laugh, but with something as complex as getting a child ready for college. A list is a must. And the other secret to success is to get everyone in the family involved in the project. Research, shopping, packing, suggestions, organizing and finally moving.
Bette: There is nothing like a family project to pull a family closer together. And the bigger the project, the more involved everyone needs to be.
Alice: Sounds like your summer has really been productive Bette.
Bette: Oh, it has. But I could not have done it without Tina and some advice from Shane, and Kit and the support from the rest of you. We have been very lucky that everything we have attempted has worked out. Schedule has been tight, but the big things just seem to fall right into place with minimal effort.
Tina: And we look forward to having everyone over to our new home.
