    Tina smiles at her and they all sip their coffees and settle into comfortable conversation. (Tina) Who owns this place now? (Alice) It was bought by a lesbian couple who moved here a few years ago, you wouldn’t know them. It’s nice it’s always stayed in the queer family Tina nods as she looks around.

    (Dana) Did Marina own it yet in 2002?

    (Alice) And Kit owned it for a while after that

    Tina looks to Bette.

    (Bette) Yes, she did a great job with it

    (Tina) Who’s Helena?

    They all glance at each other.

    (Alice) Ah, just a friend of ours. You’ll see her tonight

    (Tina) OK

    She looks around the table.

    (Tina) If you guys are going to keep things from me you really have to work on your poker faces

    They all look at her awkwardly and Tina looks to Bette, who smiles at her.

    (Bette) It’s no big thing. You went out with Helena for a while, a long time ago. You’re friends with her now, good friends. She’s friends with all of us actually

    (Tina) We seem to share a lot of friends for two people who can’t be around each other

    (Bette smiles) Yes, I guess we do

    (Tina) Is Kit in LA still?

    (Bette nods) Yes, she’s lived here for years now

    They look at each other.

    (Bette) Our relationship has come a long way since back then. She’s doing really well. We’re close

    (Tina smiles) That’s so great to hear

    Bette smiles at her.

    (Bette) You’re on good terms with her too actually

    Tina raises her eyebrows.

    (Tina) Really? That’s not complicated?

    (Bette) Not really. Everyone’s become pretty good at managing boundaries over the years I guess. And you’ve seen her a lot because of Angie

    (Tina) Who’s Angie?

    They all look at each other awkwardly and Bette turns to her.

    (Bette) Angelica. We call her Angie

    (Tina smiles) Right

    They smile at each other.

    (Tina) Where is she today?

    (Bette sighs) At a friend’s house, then staying at another’s tonight. She’s just started junior high. Her social life is picking up

    Bette raises her eyebrows and shrugs, and Tina smiles back at her.

    1. Great chapter!

      I must say Bette as well Tina handle this pretty good, how horrible it must been for them that Tina forgot 15 years it could turn out positive as they get to know each other again. Whatever happened in the past 15 years maybe they can eventually talk it out and make up.

      For them to be so hostile especially Bette, there must be a reason for it and i really want to know what brought them to that point.

    2. Interesting chapter…. Trying to give Tina some information but not too much so that she doesn’t get overwhelmed.

      My bets are that at this party, she is going to find out something that is probably going to upset her. My bets are that she finds out about the carpenter which sets her head spinning. Could that be what finally broke the two up… Tina just never got over the carpenter and Bette figured out that Tina was never going to forgive her, so they decided to break up? But then why is Bette so bitter and distant? Did they ever reconcile after the carpenter? I guess we will find out soon enough…
