    Chapter 3

Tina shrugs and Bette smiles at her.

(Bette) I know what you mean with knowing you’re supposed to be friends. One of my closest friends now is an ex-girlfriend

    Tina nods.

(Bette) It so strange to think now that we ever thought it was a good idea. Comically wrong for each other is a good description

Tina smiles as she serves herself some more noodles.

(Tina) No broken hearts that needed to be considered in pursuing a friendship then?

    Bette shrugs.

(Bette) Well, we only went out for six weeks.

    Tina smiles at her.

(Tina) It can take a lot less than six weeks to break a heart

Bette raises her eyebrows and they smile at each other.

    (Bette nods) True

Bette has a sip of beer.

(Bette) Her feelings were I think stronger than mine, but I wouldn’t say she was broken-hearted

    Tina nods.

(Bette) Were there broken hearts involved with you and Helena at the time?

Tina shakes her head and smiles.

    (Tina) No, bruised egos maybe

They smile at each other and both have a sip of beer.

They finish their meal and take the short drive back to Tina’s house. Bette pulls into the driveway and they turn to each other.

(Tina) Thanks for driving by the way

(Bette smiles) It’s fine, we live around the corner from each other, it would have been silly to take two cars

    Tina smiles over at her.

(Tina) You’ll have to give me some more local recommendations, seeing as we’re neighbours

(Bette nods) Of course, I’d be happy to

Tina reaches for her handbag at her feet and Bette watches her for a moment before continuing.

(Bette) I could also show you around, if that might work for you

Tina sits back upright and looks over at her, and they hold each other’s gaze for a long moment. Bette then smiles and Tina smiles back at her. Tina raises an eyebrow.

    (Tina) Casually?

    Bette laughs.

    (Bette) Of course

    Tina smiles and nods.

    (Tina) OK

They look at each other for another moment, both smiling. Tina then nods towards her front door.

    (Tina) Coming in?

    Bette smiles and nods.

    (Bette) Sure

They share another smile as they both step out of the car.

    Comments

    1. What a curious person Tina is… I must hand it to Bette for taking this approach to getting to know Tina Kennard. Make an offer of a casual dinner and stick with it. Make no romantic moves and let Tina make the moves. So now Tina has invited Bette into her home for a little what? After dinner conversation? Careful Tina… you may just become addicted to one Bette Porter.

Thanks for the chapter…. anxious to see where this goes.

    2. Going to be an interesting ship with these two being almost mirror images when it comes to emotional investment. Tina is very direct and watchful.

Looks like they’ll have the real chance for “friendship”,

Was’t xpctng Tina to ask Bette in. Let’s see how she handles herself . . .
