    Chapter 3

Tina nods as she has a sip of beer.

(Tina) And what were you doing before then?

(Bette) Various things, always at galleries though. I needed to make a lot of connections and build up a bit of a profile for myself before taking the plunge with my own space

Tina nods and Bette has a sip of beer.

(Bette) And your work sounds interesting

(Tina smiles) Yes, it certainly can be

    Bette smiles.

    (Bette) And you enjoy it?

(Tina nods) I do. I love managing all the drama really, even though it can come with a lot of stress too. It’s always interesting. Every day is different and you never really know what the next will bring

    Bette nods.

(Bette) And how are you finding LA?

(Tina) I’m still getting used to it really. I’m not someone who’s averse to change but there are still just a lot of adjustments to be made in getting to know a new place

Their meals arrive and the various dishes are placed in front of them on the small table by another hurried staff member. They smile at each other and begin to serve themselves.

(Bette) It must be nice to be in the same city as Helena again

    Tina smiles.

    (Tina) It is, yes

    Bette smiles at her.

(Bette) You’ve been close for a long time? Since college you said?

    Tina smiles and nods.

(Tina) Yes, we sat next to each other in our first lecture and hit it off straight away

Bette nods as she picks up her beer.

    (Bette) Did you ever date?

Tina raises her eyebrows and Bette laughs.

    (Bette) I’m just curious

She has a sip of beer and then shrugs.

(Bette) Both queer and hitting it off straight away in college, I’d be kind of surprised if you didn’t

    Tina smiles.

(Tina) We didn’t immediately but we went out for a couple of years towards the end of college

    Bette raises her eyebrows.

(Bette) Right. A couple of years? It obviously didn’t damage the friendship

Tina smiles and shakes her head.

(Tina) No. It was one of those relationships that are easy to fall into when you’re young, when you’re just comically wrong for each other in that way but it goes on far longer than it should. We’re so clearly supposed to be friends

    1. What a curious person Tina is… I must hand it to Bette for taking this approach to getting to know Tina Kennard. Make an offer of a casual dinner and stick with it. Make no romantic moves and let Tina make the moves. So now Tina has invited Bette into her home for a little what? After dinner conversation? Careful Tina… you may just become addicted to one Bette Porter.

Thanks for the chapter…. anxious to see where this goes.

    2. Going to be an interesting ship with these two being almost mirror images when it comes to emotional investment. Tina is very direct and watchful.

Looks like they’ll have the real chance for “friendship”,

Was’t xpctng Tina to ask Bette in. Let’s see how she handles herself . . .
