    Chapter 3

(Bette) Don’t change, you look incredible

Tina waves her hand dismissively as she continues down the hallway, calling out to her as she disappears into her bedroom.

(Tina) No really, I want to. I’d much prefer to wear jeans anyway

They drive together to a local restaurant Bette has chosen and Bette pulls up outside a strip of unassuming buildings. They step out of the car and Tina glances around the street curiously, taking in her surroundings as she follows Bette to the entrance of a particularly modest-looking restaurant.

They enter and settle at a small table and Tina looks around as she takes in the cheap and cheerful atmosphere. Bette smiles as she watches her.

(Bette) You’re thinking this is an interesting choice of restaurant?

Tina’s eyes continue to scan the room and then land back on Bette. She raises her eyebrows and they smile at each other.

(Tina) I love it, but it’s not what I would have expected from you

(Bette smiles) It’s just dinner right? I’d never bring a date here

Tina smiles as she continues to look at her curiously and Bette shrugs.

(Bette) It’s my favourite restaurant in LA though. The rice paper rolls are extraordinary

A member of the wait staff appears by the table and they put in their order, both adding a few small dishes to share and Bette recommending some options to Tina.

    (Bette) Do you drink beer?

(Tina smiles) Sometimes, not very often

(Bette smiles) Me neither, but I do here. They have a selection of Vietnamese beers that go with the food, and the atmosphere I think

Bette raises her eyebrows in question and Tina smiles and nods.

    (Tina) Sure

    (Bette smiles) Great

Bette orders their drinks and they both smile at the staff member as they hand over their menus.

They turn to each other and smile.

(Tina) So you come here often?

(Bette nods) Yes, they’re open late so I often drop in on my way home if I’ve been held up at the gallery

Tina nods as their beers are placed in front of them by a member of the wait staff moving quickly past the table.

(Tina) How long ago did you open your gallery?

    (Bette) About five years ago

    1. What a curious person Tina is… I must hand it to Bette for taking this approach to getting to know Tina Kennard. Make an offer of a casual dinner and stick with it. Make no romantic moves and let Tina make the moves. So now Tina has invited Bette into her home for a little what? After dinner conversation? Careful Tina… you may just become addicted to one Bette Porter.

Thanks for the chapter…. anxious to see where this goes.

    2. Going to be an interesting ship with these two being almost mirror images when it comes to emotional investment. Tina is very direct and watchful.

Looks like they’ll have the real chance for “friendship”,

Was’t xpctng Tina to ask Bette in. Let’s see how she handles herself . . .
