‘You just fucked up.’ Helena said. 

‘How the hell did I fuck things up?’ Bette replied. ‘I’m fucking things up right now by not going to them.’ 

‘You need to get Tina out of your head. The girl’s not even gay Bette. It’s been years, move on already. You’re hurting not only yourself but now even Jodie, who is so nice and likes you so much.’ 

*Meanwhile in the bathroom.*

Tina was splashing water in her face. Touching Bette had been so stupid of her but had made her feel incredibly warm. She didn’t understand why she had the need to be with Jodie, after all, wasn’t Tina enough for her? 

‘Tina?’ Jodie stood behind her. 

‘Jodie was it?’ Tina replied, making sure the girl noticed how unimportant she was to her. 

‘Why did you do that?’ 

‘Do what?’ 

‘Tina, are you gay?’ 

Tina looked at the woman confused 

‘Or are you into women at all?’ 

‘No I’m not,’ the blonde replied. 

‘Then stay away from Bette.’ 

The blonde shook her head.

‘She’s my best friend.’ 

‘You don’t touch friends like that, definitely not friends you have a past with.’ Jodie replied

Tina looked at her with even more confusion. 

‘What?’ Tina asked.

‘Oh come on, you really think Bette and I aren’t that close that she didn’t tell me she used to have feelings for you? Tina, I’m here to stay whether you like it or not. Just keep your distance, you’ve hurt her enough.’ and then Jodie left. 

Tina couldn’t wrap her head around what had just happened, had Bette been in love with her? Has Bette ever loved anyone? When was this, how long ago, was she still? Is that why she didn’t like Henry? She needed to talk to her friend, right now. 

She went back to the dance floor and tried to find Bette. 

‘She left’ Helena said. 

‘Home?’ Tina replied, already walking out the door. 

Helena grabbed her arm. 

‘Don’t.’ 

Tina looked at her friend 

‘You can’t keep doing this Tina.’ 

‘Keep doing what?’ 

‘Every time she starts to kind of move on from you, you go to her and say something or touch her in some way that makes her swear off any other woman.’

‘I don’t do that.’ 

‘You might not be aware of it, but you’ve done it before, with Candance, Kelly, Brenda. God you even did it back in college when Bette and I started sleeping together.’

Tina wanted to say so much but didn’t find the words. 

‘Look T, you’re great and I love you, but the fact is, you’re not gay, and you can’t keep Bette these feelings, because you give her so much hope but at the end of the night you leave to get home to your boyfriend.’

‘She’s my best friend Helena’ 

‘I know, but even you must deep down feel that the way you behave towards her isn’t normal for best friends.’

When Tina didn’t immediately reply Helena added: ‘I mean come on, like just ten minutes ago, sliding down her back, moving up her dress, that’s something you wouldn’t even let Henry do to you in public.’ 

Tina knew she had been doing those things, but never because she wanted to hurt Bette, if anything she liked to touch her friend. She knew Bette normally didn’t like to be touched, but she had always been a very affectionate person. She just thought eventually her friend got used to her, because she received that special privilege to be close to her. She liked to feel Bette’s skin on hers, but she never had thought about it in a sexual way. Sure she had thought about Bette when she was having sex, but that was always because she had been doing something that day with her that the brunette popped up in her head. 

‘I just don’t want to lose her’ Tina said 

‘She’s not yours to have.’ Helena replied.
