Chapter 30 – Saturday with the Extended Family
Kit: Good morning, ladies. What can I do to help?
Bette: You can empty the dishwashers and put those things away. Then we will start washing the prep dishes.
Tina and Angie walked in from opposite directions.
Tina: Looks like you girls have things well under control. Bette, why don’t you go lite the grill and get it heated up. Where is Sonny?
Kit: He’ll be here shortly. He’s in the reading room.
Mary: TMI…. Kit.
Kit: Sorry… but I did not realize your ears were so sensitive.
Mary: Normally, they are not. But we are preparing breakfast.
Bette: Give me some of that to carry Mom. You carry the paper towels. Let’s go light the grill. If Sonny doesn’t show up in about 10 minutes, I’m going to go ahead and start the bacon.
Mary: I’d be glad to cook the bacon.
Bette: Well, then we have the hash browns and then the scrambled eggs. Sonny has learned to manage the grill, particularly breakfast and he loves the job. We will go start peeling the oranges and get a big bowl of those so we can have some fruit with our meal.
Mary: Do you want me to set the table?
Bette: We are going to use some paper plates and plastic wear so we don’t have a whole lot of clean up. I think we have plenty of coffee mugs.
When Bette and Mary returned to the house, Angie and Daniel were peeling oranges and putting the fruit in a large mixing bowl.
Tina: Bette, I am going to need you to carry the potatoes and eggs out when the bacon gets done.
Shane came in looking rather sleepy followed by Bobbie who was grinning. Bobbie went over and hugged Mary and kissed her on the cheek. Angie’s eyes got wide as she watched the rather affectionate Bobbie.
Mary: I can tell someone had a good night’s sleep. Good morning to you too, Bobbie. Good morning, Shane.
Tina: Bobbie, why don’t you and Shane set up the coffee service on the beverage table. Put out the coffee mugs to use. Cream, sugar, and some spoons and napkins. We are going to need about 2 or 3 gallons of coffee. So, get the large urns out there.
