Chapter 33 – Days of Fun and Then New Haven

Mary laughed. She reminded Bette that for the most part, the only guest would be family. Bette reminded Mary that Daniel was growing older and he may decide to invite friends over to enjoy the pool or to study or for whatever reason. And when that occasion occurs, Daniel will need to be prepared.

The group finished their breakfast and where all smiles when Bette hailed a cab and put three of them in it and then hailed another for her and Angie and headed them all to the Metropolitan Art Museum. Daniel loved riding in a cab. It was his main mode of transportation coming home from school with the nanny. He knew that he was going to get home as quickly as possible as the drivers hated to sit in traffic. The quicker a cab gets their passenger to their destination, the quicker another fare can be picked up and ferried to their destination. Money for driving was far more beneficial than money for waiting.

On the way, the cab went along the side of Central Park. Daniel asked Tina if they could go do something in the park. Tina then promised that they would have a proper visit to Central Park.

They stopped and let their fares out in front of the massive white columns of the museum. There were banners signifying the latest exhibit and potentially upcoming special exhibits on the schedule. Bette had not noted any new exhibit which had caught her eye, therefore, she wanted to visit several of the exhibits of the house collection to the museum. She wanted to begin with the ancient Egyptian artifacts exhibit. This had been a favorite of Angie’s when she was young and it had been a long time since Daniel had been here. Mary had never been in this part of the building. All were just mesmerized by the mummies, the decorated tomb walls, the sculptured columns. And when Tina explained that the small odd pictures was actually an alphabet of sorts and that each inscription was a message to the future, Daniel was overwhelmed. He immediately wanted to know what each inscription or set of pictures said. Mary then pointed out an example of what the hieroglyphics said in a plexiglass covered plaque. This fascinated both Angie and Daniel.
