Chapter 34 – New Haven to Redondo Beach
Bette (hugging her mother): Oh mom, it’s so good to have you around. I kind of hate to see you go home. But we all have things we need to do, right? Let us know your plans as they get more defined. We will do all we can to help. I’m sure Sonny, Kit, Jeanette and Paris will too. We are all excited that you want to move to the Los Angeles area. You have a safe trip and take care of yourself. We love you, Mom. Always and forever.
Mary held Bette tightly and finally release her. She had tears in her eyes as she reached for her purse to find a tissue. Tina handed her one.
Mary: I’m going to the gate now. I love you all. Take care.
Mary walked away toward her gate.
Daniel: Grandmama seems sad too.
Bette: Yep, but she will be fine. She misses us when we are not with her. But she’s planning on coming back for a long visit. That will be at Thanksgiving too.
Tina: Do you guys want to venture toward our gate? Maybe we need to go to the facilities first. They should start boarding first class in about 15 minutes.
They all started toward the restrooms and then headed for the gate. The call came for the boarding of first class just as they were about to sit in the waiting area. Bette decided that she would sit in the odd seat and allow Daniel to sit with his mom. The flight was a normal flight, with the normal food and lights out. All three slept most of the way across country.
Bette heard the bells dinging for the flight crew to prepare the cabin for landing. She quickly straightened up and looked at the seat behind her and noticed that Tina and Daniel were awake and putting their shoes on. It was almost 10:00 o’clock east coast time and 7:00 pm west coast time. The sun was setting over the ocean. Bette was glad to be home.
The family deplaned and went to the restroom and then headed for the baggage claim. Bette took Tina’s hand and kissed her as she finished washing her hands.
Bette: Welcome to Los Angeles.
Tina giggled and kissed her back.

I hope I’m reading this story years into the future. Bette and Tina as grandparents, three generations living together, where Daniel will go to college, the scenarios are endless. Thanks for your dedication, Martha.
Fans,
Thank you for commenting. There are only a few more chapters in this Volume. I have completed a Volume 3 of this series … and will continue to publish on a regular basis. This volume starts to address the raising of a boy and the onset of puberty and adolescence. These are the challenging years in a persons life and even more so for the parents going through it with them. Now that Angie is away at Yale, she doesn’t have much of a role in my stories until she returns home.
I know that this is not the normal fan fiction. But what I want to show is how important communication is between Bette and Tina. I want to show how important it is for parents to communicate with their children and how important it is to realize that the objective is raise children to be independent, healthy, happy individuals. And so much goes into that. To have a child go from childhood to adulthood is difficult for parents… probably more difficult than the child themselves will ever realize. To come to the realization that you (as a parent) will not be there to give just the right advice and to object to the wrong decision is a tough bridge to cross. That has been a subplot of most of this story… I hope that has come across in my writing. Bette and Tina are strong parents but its not because they hold tight reigns on their children. Angie and Daniel are unique individuals… at least they are in my story.
Thanks for reading and commenting… stay tuned for more…
I alway shook my head while watching the parents of my kids’ friends hold a tight reign and made choices for them which nearly always backfired. Made for quite the lesson in our household.
