Chapter 35 – Labor Day and More
Tina: Nothing that I know of… I love you Bette… have a good day. Call me if you need anything.
Bette hung up and grinned. She started back to work. Around eleven a knock came on the door. Holly announced that George and Grace had arrived. Bette welcomed them into her office and went over the plans for class rooms. She would give George and Grace a list of the slides she would need for each class and would expect them to have the projector and slides in place ready for the class session. She asked that they divide the work up between themselves. Each classroom setup would count as two hours of work since there was the chore of obtaining the slides, setting up the machine and putting the sides in order and then returning the slides to the library and storing the machine in the department’s store room. There was a screen in every class room which had a remote control which the instructor could operate. The same remote control also operated the lights. Bette emailed the list for the next 12 classes to both of them and the dates for which they would be needed. She then talked about the test days and told them those would count as 4 hours per class as they would proctor the exams plus grade any multiple-choice test. The first semester would cover two- and three-dimensional art and sculpture. The second semester would cover architecture and music. There was also an optional third semester which covered theatrical art history which included live theatre, film and dance. The second and third semesters of Art Appreciation were taught by other professors.
Bette suggested that they read the text book in order to be ready should she need a stand in to handle the classes. She was in hopes that there would be no occasion where that would happen but with the slides and some knowledge of the text and her notes, she would think they could get though one class period. After all, they were graduate students in art history. And they should be familiar with much of what the class was learning. Grace responded that this was no problem for her, but George was not as confident.
