Chapter 36 – First Week of School
When they arrived at their new home, they noticed that its exterior appearance had changed rather dramatically. The exterior was clean and looked brand new. There had been some landscaping performed and it looked crisp and manicured. There was fresh mulch in all the flower beds. Bette opened the garage door and drove in and saw that Tina was already there.
Daniel: Wow, that was a short drive. This house is a lot closer than the beach house.
Bette: Yes, it is. Now, be careful when you are in the house. There may be wet paint all over the place and you don’t want paint on your uniform.
Daniel: That would not be good. Come on, let’s go take a look.
Tina came to the garage door and met Bette and Daniel. She hugged her son and then kissed Bette.
Tina: They have really made some progress. But it looks like they are only about half way finished with it. It going to take every bit of another week to complete this process.
Bette: Looks like they got on the landscaping right away. That looks good.
Tina: Yeah, I think they did the pressure washing the house last week. I think they have done the exterior painting as well. I think a lot of the interior painting has been done, but the staining of the wood work is still to be done. Then they need to clean up and get ready for us to move the furniture in. It looks amazing so far. Come on. Let’s look around.
Bette started the tour. She was very pleased with each of the room colors. She loved the yellow in Angie’s room, the blue-gray in Daniel’s room, the blue-green in Mary’s room and the mauve-gray color of the master bedroom. The rooms made her smile and gave her a sense of serenity. The workers had left for the day but it was obvious that much had been done in house.
Bette: Oh sweetie, this looks wonderful. I believe I like the house more than before we left for New York.
Tina: Come look at the master closets. Jim has pulled out all the shelving and had completely replace it. Did you tell him to do that?
Bette: No, I think I said that we were going to live with it for a while and see what our needs are. But this looks great. And it’s so much better organization and use of space. I really love it. What about you?
