    Chapter 4

(Tina) And when we got home baby? When you couldn’t find your keys? What happened then?

    (Bette) Tee…

Tina can feel Bette’s breathing getting heavier against her.

(Tina) Can I say it for you?

Bette nods into her neck, still holding her tightly.

(Tina) Well, then I couldn’t stand it any longer

Tina smiles as she again speaks directly into Bette’s ear.

(Tina) I went down on you against the front door on our porch because I couldn’t wait another minute to have you

Bette continues to hold her and struggles to keep her feet. Tina again draws back and meets her eyes, smiling when she sees a familiar desire and longing there.

(Tina) Do you remember how much we wanted each other? How in love we were?

Bette takes a breath and nods.

(Tina) How long ago was that night?

Bette speaks softly in response, still trying to compose herself.

    (Bette) Years, many years

Tina nods and smiles at her. She reaches up and runs her fingers lightly through Bette’s hair.

(Tina) Baby, to me that was last Thursday

Bette takes another breath while Tina keeps smiling at her.

(Tina) That’s where I’m at. Right now

They look at one another for a moment.

(Tina) That’s how in love with you I am. And how much I want you

Later in the night, Bette is getting a drink at the bar and Shane appears alongside her.

    (Shane) Hey

    (Bette smiles) Hey

(Shane) It’s good seeing you here

Bette smiles at her and they both turn and lean against the bar, sipping on their drinks and looking across to the dance floor. Alice, Dana and Tina are all jumping around and falling over each other laughing, completely lost in an over the top rendition of the ballad that is playing.

Shane and Bette both laugh as they watch them.

(Bette) Do you feel like everyone is regressing a bit, being around this Tina?

(Shane smiles) Maybe, I think it’s bringing a nostalgia out in everyone

She looks to Bette as Bette has a sip of her drink and watches Tina.

(Shane) So, what’s going on with you two?

    Bette looks over at her.

    (Bette) What do you mean?

(Shane smiles) Come on, everyone here saw that dance

Bette smiles and looks down at her drink.

(Bette) Nothing’s going on. It’s not Tina, not really

Shane looks at Tina, being picked up and swung around by Dana.

(Shane) It kind of is though, isn’t it? It’s her from back then. It really does feel like spending time with that person from years ago

    She looks back at Bette.

(Shane) It must be weird for you

(Bette sighs) Honestly, yes. It’s very weird. And very familiar. The way she looks at me, the way I feel when I’m around her

    (Shane) The way you feel?

    Bette looks at her.

(Bette) But it’s not real. She’ll be back on Monday, and she’ll go back to looking at me the way she has for years now

Bette has another sip of her drink and Shane watches her.

(Shane) You know, before all of this happened, when we were having a drink for her birthday, she said she sought you out that day when she dropped off Angelica. She was thrown by the therapy, it had her thinking about when she was happy. And then she went to see you and you had an argument, and she said that sorted her head out again

(Bette frowns) Why are you telling me this?

(Shane) Well, it sounded to me like something was going on for her. To do with you. Something aside from all this fifteen years ago craziness

Shane shrugs and they both focus back on the shenanigans across the room.

    Shane turns again to Bette.

(Shane) You do know you can’t sleep with her though, right?

Bette sighs and shakes her head.

    (Bette) I do, thank you

(Shane smiles) No matter how much she throws herself at you

Bette gives her a reproachful look.

(Bette) I don’t need to be told this

    (Shane smiles) OK, just checking

That both have a sip of their drink and look back across the room.

(Shane smiles) This is going to be fucking torture for you

Bette smiles and continues watching Tina.

    (Bette) I know that too

    1. Omg – can you imagine what that’s like for tina . She doesn’t know what has happened in the last 15 years of their life . The miscarriage , the carpenter, the Jodi , the Henry , the everything . Even the amazing times . Must but heart breaking for both of them . My heart my poor heart just thinking about it . Tina only sees Bette the way she saw her in 2002. Must be so weird thinking that she has a kid as well .

    2. This is so hard on Bette and Tina but i really hope when Tina comes out of this Monday she will remember these past week, remember how happy and in love she is with Bette, then and now.

Looking forward to the next chapter!

    3. Why is it that I get the feeling that when Tina finds out why she and Bette are not together, she is going to have a huge crashing of her world. Bette seems to simply be at a loss as to how to handle what is going on with Tina. She still is very attracted to Tina but Tina’s current relationship with Bette, is the one in which Bette knows will emerge when everything is put back to where it was. Bette cannot allow Tina’s seductive behavior and current state of mind be the basis for a change in their relationship. That would be abuse anyway you cut it. If there is to be a future between Bette and Tina, the both need to start with the same set of facts with regard to their history and make decisions and formulate a relationship based on that. No matter how tempting it is for Bette, she cannot yield to Tina.

Thanks for you chapter… keep it coming.
