(Tina) No, I’ve moved around a lot actually. I left here not long after you moved out, and then moved back about a year

    They walk on, chatting away and drawing each other’s attention to familiar landmarks and the memories they spark as they pass them.

    (Bette) Have you always lived in the same neighbourhood?

    (Tina) No, I’ve moved around a lot actually. I left here not long after you moved out, and then moved back about a year ago.

    Bette looks at her for a moment, feeling the same pang of sadness she always does when Tina references her leaving.

    (Tina) It’s funny I’m back here now really, when you show up again

    They share a smile.

    (Tina) What about you? You didn’t think of experiencing a different part of the city?

    (Bette) I honestly didn’t even think about it. This is just New York to me.

    Tina nods

    (Tina) Yeah, I know what you mean. It felt like returning home when I moved back here.

    Tina points towards a corner coming up.

    (Tina) Our coffee shop is still there, did you know?

    (Bette smiles) I did yes, I checked almost as soon as I arrived

    (Tina) Have you been in?

    (Bette) No. I wasn’t really planning on it.

    (Tina) I haven’t either. Well maybe something we could do together?

    (Bette smiles) I’d like that.

    They walk on and eventually come towards the end of their journey, as they begin to approach Tina’s apartment building.

    (Bette) This was a great idea. Nice to be reminded of old memories.

    (Tina) It feels like more than a memory sometimes. More like being thrown back in time.

    Bette looks at her and Tina waves her hand dismissively.

    (Tina smiles) Anyway, I’ve enjoyed it too.

    They fall into silence for a few paces.

    (Bette) I am struggling a bit though with not being able to touch you

    Tina smiles over at her and bites her lip.

    (Tina) Shall we pick up the pace?

    Bette smiles at her as they set off to walk the rest of the way hurriedly and in silence, before falling through the front door of Tina’s apartment together.

     

    Later, they lie together, wrapped in the sheets and around each other, breathing heavily and both taking a moment to catch their breath.

    Bette looks over at Tina after a few moments, who is lying on her back with one hand held over her eyes. Bette examines her, taking in the pattern of her breathing and the tense position of her mouth, and realises she is crying.

    3. Seriously, I wish I’d seen this gf when it was 20 chapters in so I could read and read and read it. In all the chapters, I’m sad when I can see the chapter is coming to an end.

    6. Wow…. actually that ending scene was really hot… They are falling in love again so hard…. Bette is not liking her job which sooner or later she will blame it for keeping her away from Tina. If Tina give the slightest hint that she wants to get back together, Bette is in a place that she would give up her career in a heartbeat to have her back. She gave up Tina to have a job, She will not make that mistake (her words) again. Jobs can be gratifying and ego boosting, but they are never permenant. A partner is permenant and life fulfilling if you find the right one. And they have. Keep it going…

        katynd, I love all the references where you mention how Tina “studies Bette”. This is Y she knows she can show up late and lay her hands and seductive words in Bette’s ears. WoW!!!

        She took Bette’s fears (previous lover(s) and shot them down fast.

        • And another thing . . . Tina KNEW that Bette would be cherning in sour bile at how she responded to her own observations and mis-placed words.

          Tina was wise to go to Bette and demonstrate how Bette was responding like “the Bette of old”.

          Bette has always seen Tina as incredibly desirable and figures everybody else does too!!! Poor Bette
