Chapter 7 – Saturday with the Family

Angie:  For Redondo Beach, they have removed the restriction for two weeks.  I guess that rain we had last week replenished the reserves a bit.

Tina:  Well, it was a gully washer.

    Daniel: A gully washer?

Tina:  Sorry, that is a North Carolina expression.  A gully is a low area at the base of a higher area of land. When it rains, those area tend to erode and become temporary rivers and streams. Then when all the water is gone, all that is left is an area of mud and rock which looks like a dried river bed. So, a heavy rain with either cause a gully to be formed or it will wash an existing one of the rocks and debris down the stream or flow of the water.  But there has to be significant water for that to happen.

Daniel:  Wow…that’s cool mom.  A gully washer.  I’ll have to remember that.

Angie giggled:  Only mom, would use an expression like that.

Tina:  Well, what would you call a heavy rain?

    Angie:  A frog strangler!

Everyone laughed.  That was just as southern a term as gully washer.

Tina found the Walmart and pulled in and found a place to park.  They all went in and found the kites, the string, some material for the tail, and a couple string reels which operated somewhat like reel on a fishing rod.  Daniel was very interested in these.  They did not have these in New York. But he was sure that this would make kite flying easier. The family then paid for their purchases, put them into the trunk and headed for home. About 45 minutes they were home.  They all decided to go have showers and dress for the day before they started their preparation of the beach.

Tina and Bette decided to shower together so they could wash their hair.  Once they did, they thought that perhaps they should have waited until the afternoon since they would be going out tonight. But the whole ritual of shampooing the other’s hair was something special to them and they knew that they were going to be apart for most of next week.  So extra hair wash was something they took advantage of.  They really wanted to indulge in a little sex but chose to postpone their activities until later.
