Chapter 7 – Saturday with the Family

Bette:  Yeah, come on.  Let’s go show the kids how badly I am at putting things together.

Tina:  Let them take the lead and just support them.  They will never know.

Bette:  My children are smarter than that. They know. They are just like their Mama; they are just kind and sweet and won’t rub it in how inept I am at such things.

Tina:  Give me a kiss and let go downstairs.

Bette kissed Tina and smiled.  Tina took her hand and led her out the door.

Angie and Daniel were in the media room getting out all the thing they had purchased for their kites.  They had chosen two very different kite which look like birds. One was a rainbow stripped bird and the other was a predominately colored in green and black.

Bette:  Okay, how do we want to do this?

Tina:  Why don’t you and Daniel make one and Angie and I will make the other. Which one do you want to make Daniel?

Daniel:  I’ll take the black and green one.

Tina:  Okay, Angie, let’s get our kite and things and move over here on the floor so we will be out of the way.  And let’s get started.

Daniel:  Come on Mama B. Let me show you what we got here and we can start building our kite.

Bette:  Have you read the instructions?  Do we have everything we need?

Daniel:  Oh yeah.  We’ll have this thing together in no time.

Bette:  Well, lead the way, Daniel.  Just tell me what you want me to do.

Daniel:  First, let lay everything out in order that we will need it.  Then we will start assembly.

Tina was paying attention to Daniel and whispered to Angie that they should do exactly what Daniel and Bette was doing and they too would have a perfect kite. Angie nodded.

Tina:  You take the lead Angie. I am here to assist you.  (Then she whispered) I’ll keep an eye on our guide and let you know if we need to make any adjustments.

Angie smiling:  Sounds like a plan.  Here we go.

They quickly arrange the parts and then started to assemble their colorful bird. Daniel and Bette completed the assembly and was working on a tail when Angie and Tina completed theirs. Both look good and were ready for flight except for the tail and the string.  So, Angie and Tina started working on the tail assembly. Soon both kites had their tail assembly on. Bette declared them both air-worthy and then set up Angie and Daniel to get the string onto the reels.  One would hold the core of string while the other wound in onto the reels. Once one was finished, they would do the other. Then they would tie the string to the kites in the appropriate place.  Bette and Tina went to prepare the picnic while the kids finished the process.
