    Chapter 9

    Chapter 9

Bette and Tina have been struggling more than usual finding time to see one another. Tina’s work has been increasingly demanding as she finalises a major piece she has been working on, and Bette remains equally busy. Bette has tried on several occasions to organise a meeting between the two, but Tina has been unable to manage it over the last week.

Tina’s office, Tina places a call to Bette, who answers while travelling across town in her limousine between appointments.

(Bette) Well hello, it’s been a while

    (Tina) I know, I’m sorry

(Bette) It’s ok. I’ll admit I was starting to get a bit worried though. Everything’s ok?

(Tina) Yes, everything’s ok. Just run off my feet more than usual.

    (Bette) OK

They both sit silently for a moment.

(Tina) So I’ve finally hit the deadline on what I’ve been working on

(Bette smiles) That’s great, it will be nice to have you back

    Tina smiles.

(Tina) Are you free tonight? It will come out in the coming days and things will get crazy again, but I have a reprieve for now

    (Bette) Come over, I’ll cook

(Tina smiles) OK, that sounds great

Later, Bette’s apartment. Tina lets herself in using her key and makes her way to the kitchen. Bette smiles over at her when Tina rounds the corner, stepping away from her dinner preparations and embracing her with a passionate kiss. They eventually step apart and look at one another.

(Bette smiles) You’re here, I’ve missed you

(Tina smiles) I’ve missed you too

They both smile softly at the other, taking a moment to enjoy standing in each other’s arms.

    (Bette) How was your day?

Tina smiles and holds her hand up to Bette’s cheek.

    (Tina) Better now

They smile at each other again and lean in for a gentle kiss.

(Bette) Are you hungry? This’ll keep if you want to relax for a while first

(Tina) You don’t mind? That might be nice

(Bette) Of course not, head to the couch, I’ll bring you a wine

Tina leans in and kisses her.

    (Tina) Mmmm, thank you.

Tina moves to the lounge and settles on the couch and Bette makes her way in with two glasses of wine. Bette hands Tina her wine and sits down next to her. She takes a sip of her drink, watching Tina for a moment and noticing a sullenness to her that isn’t usual.

    1. So this is where everything comes to a head… *Sigh*… I understand Tina’s point and I also get why Bette’s so angry. This is why it’s impossible for a politician and a true journalist to be in a relationship: conflicts of interest. As Tina said, Bette will probably weather the political storm. I’m more concerned if their relationship will survive this major change. Is that the end of their affair? I hope not. I hope they’ll talk again when everything has calmed down.

I’m scared to think this could end in a heartbreak not only for Bette and Tina but for all of us hopeless Tibette fans out here. But as I’ve said in my previous comment at another ungodly hour, I hope you’ll find the time and inspiration to continue writing and sharing this well-written story, katynd! I promise to keep on reading until the hopefully distant, not-so-bitter end. Thank you so much for this, katynd, and have a lovely weekend!:)

    2. Wow, this is their fork in the road. Is this why Bette walked away before? Corruption , however minute, is corruption. I think Tina was naive to think that starting their relationship over would not be demanding at best. Keep up the great writing and bring us to a strong ending. I hope you are a true Tibetter. PPS
